Notable resident edit

Hi Spy007au, I noticed in Trove that Lawrence Weathers VC lived at Mintaro. Regards, JennyOz (talk) 00:54, 28 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that. I have included him in the Mintaro article. Regards, Spy007au (talk) 05:04, 28 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Review edit

  • One thing I noticed during my initial readthrough is that not all the references for notable residents actually connect them to Mintaro. Can you please check these?
I have added a RS for Peter Cloke (interesting watch). Trying to find a RS for George Young (Young Street in Mintaro is named after him, but the South Australian names places register is unhelpful). All other notables are reliable referenced to either Mintaro, Martindale Hall or Kadlunga.
  • In the first paragraph in Geography and climate, sentences basically follow the X is Y format. Can you vary the writing to make it more interesting?
  • This (source 6 as of this edit) feels like questionable RS and in-so-much as it is RS it would presumably be for the geology not climate which is what is being sourced here
  • In general if you are able to find more official sources than the tourism/trade groups sourcing used in parts ((11) as second example) that would be good. These groups might be RS, but will have issues surrounding NPOV even if they do have editorial controls and other elements of RS.
  • Source for Hill being first European? (Due to my relative ignorance of Australian geography, I am taking on GF that Eyre biography does refer to the Mintaro area)
  • I am unclear how this source(14) proves the 3 sentences that appear to be attributed to it
  • Same question for [https://www.abc.net.au/news/rural/2017-04-06/ambalindum-numery-station-sale-kadlunga-purchase-tim-edmunds/8418036 this source(15)
  • The bullock traffic information seems to be repeated (if not identically) in the 3rd and 4th paragraphs of history
  • Mintaro slate being famous needs its own inline citation
  • Does History of Mintaro state Mintaro was well placed to continue as an agricultural service centre despite the closure of the Burra mines.
  • reflected a way of life similar to that of English nobility according to who?
  • The Sydney Morning Herald doesn't appear to say anything about the Mintaro Greyhound Coursing Club
  • The source for In his 1892 booklet, Our Pastoral Industry, Sir F. W. Holder stated that the local Ngadjuri word "Mintadloo” may have over time degenerated or morphed into Mintaro. doesn't give the Ngadjuri word. It is also too close a paraphrase as currently written.
  • However, with the exception... before any muleteers had arrived in South Australia needs citing.
  • By 1860 Mintaro was South Australia's leading producer of high quality slate. is not paraphrased
  • Same is true for the next sentence
  • And the next sentence. This one I would turn into a quote and list its source because it's interesting
  • The uses of the slate is not RS it's PROMO
  • Lindrum source doesn't say he used it to practice
  • The Hewitt sentence is not paraphrased and is probably just not necessary.
  • With effective new management increased slate production began doesn't seemed supported by the source(17)
  • It feels to me that the Martindale Hall section is WP:UNDUE - certainly should be included but maybe one good paragraph? I"ll note that I think it has more text than the article itself and so you could probably incorporate some of the text there. I will await any changes before doing source review for that section.
  • A real estate agent is not a RS for saying that Kadlunga is one of the most historic properties in the Mid North area.
  • Similar concerns for the Kadlunga section though it obviously doesn't have an article to be merged into.
  • Source for At one time, the town contained all the basic facilities needed to cater for its own population and for the surrounding area but today many of these buildings have been converted to guest accommodation.?
  • I removed the plans for the solar farm as the way it would connect to the grid didn't seem relevant. However,if it gives more recent information about its status, that could be added back-in but should be appropriately dated (as I did with the revised sentence)
  • I am not sure this source(76) is RS. If it is it does not seem to support the sentence it's citing.
  • The Clare Valley is one of Australia's oldest wine-producing areas, with a wine-making history dating back over 150 years. is a copy/paste. Needs to be paraphrased.
  • Is Wine Australia(78) a government entity? A public-private sponsorship? Trying to ascertain whether its RS to make the claim its supporting in the article.
  • Pardon my ignorance but what's a "peak local body"? It's clearly the phrase the association uses but perhaps could use an article link for anyone link me?
  • Although Mintaro is primarily an agricultural community, in recent times tourism associated with the wine industry has played an increasingly important role. or similar idea is stated a few times but hasn't been backed to a RS at any point that I can see.
  • The best way to explore and see Mintaro is by foot. the best way according to who? This seems to be promotional.
  • All pictures are appropriate licensed.
  • Source for the leadlight window at the Magpie & Stump Hotel being historic other than its old?

@Spy007au: I'm not sure why you've had to wait since February for a review but here we are. Can you, or another editor, confirm that you are still interested in going through the review process? Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 19:26, 28 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Just returned from holidays. Yes, still interested going through the process. Regards, Spy007au (talk) 02:32, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Great. I expect to begin in the next few days and expect it will take me 2-4 days to go through everything once I start. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 02:47, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'll start working on this in the next couple of days. Regards, Spy007au (talk) 01:51, 3 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Spy007au: I have finished my detailed read of the article and putting the article on hold. Given the scope of issues identified I would understand if you don't have time to address everything in the near term. If you like, I can close the review and come back when you've had time to work on it further - so you wouldn't have to wait so long for a review. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 00:30, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I think that is best. I'm struggling to find adequate time to address these issues in a timely manner, so will do it in a piecemeal approach. I really appreciate the time and effort you have put into the GA review. Regards, Spy007au (talk) 22:16, 7 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
