Talk:Minion (typeface)

Latest comment: 1 year ago by Palmyrah in topic Was it really invented in 1990?

This thing reads like an advertisement. Most of what is here is trivial crap and should probably be purged. Dutchman Schultz (talk) 07:19, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

“Free” downloads edit

Minion is included in some Adobe packages and is free to use to Adobe clients. There is no evidence that it is free to use for everybody. That it is to be found as “free” on some website is not sufficient to make it free. I did suppress the links to free download in the page. If someone wants to put back something of the kind, he or she should provide sufficient reference to legal information that it is indeed free. --Dominique Meeùs (talk) 11:15, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Was it really invented in 1990? edit

If that is so, how comes it that Speak, Memory, Vladimir Nabokov's memoir of his childhood in Tsarist Russia (pub. 1967) contains the following sentence?

'On rainy days, crouching at the foot of a little-used bookshelf, I used to look up obscure, obscurely tantalizing and enervating terms in the the Russian eighty-two volume edition of Brockhaus's Encyclopedia, where, in order to save space, the title word of this or that article would be reduced...to its capitalized initial, so that the columns of dense print in minion type, besides taxing one's attention...'

Speak, Memory, Ch 10, sec. 4, para 1. palmyrah (talk) 09:29, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

See the second sentence-minion is the traditional name for a 7pt font. That sounds pretty hard to read! Blythwood (talk) 10:35, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Should that not be mentioned in this article? I came here from the book and was told that Minion was a typeface invented in 1990? palmyrah (talk) 14:27, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I see it's been added. Many thanks! palmyrah (talk) 14:28, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
