To bring this in line with the usual romanization, I request this article be moved from Mihn Yong-hwan to Min Yong-hwan --Dan (talk) 15:58, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Translation copyright

I'm not clear about the perceived copyright violation here. The passage is from a published source so it is quoted and properly cited where is the violation? This would imply that any journal article that includes a block quote, even though properly cited, is in violation of copyright?

Well, I believe (though I am not a lawyer) that any quotation from a copyrighted work is technically a copyright violation and must qualify as "fair use" under US law (or the corresponding concept elsewhere). Normally this isn't an issue, since short quotes used in context as part of an article naturally qualify, but having an entire section that consists solely of a quotation from a copyrighted work can naturally be problematic. I could be wrong, but I think that's the issue here. If this statement of Min's is in fact of sufficient historical note to have its own section, perhaps there are useful things we could be saying about its significance? -- Visviva (talk) 15:08, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

If it is fair use, then it isn't a copyright violation. I'm not sure if this qualifies as fair use or not, since fair use law is very unclear and very much subject to interpretation. On Wikipedia, there is also WP:NFCC#1 which tells that non-free content shouldn't be used if it would be possible to use free content instead. In this case, a freely licensed translation of the text could be used instead. --Stefan2 (talk) 18:24, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Requested move 28 October 2015

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Min Yonghwan as recommended by Jenks24. In other words, we replace 'wh' with 'hw'. Usage appears to vary, but the spelling 'whan' seems to have little support. A full-length biography from a university press (dated 2002) has him at Min Yong-hwan. Min Yongwhan → ? – Recently moved by Idh0854 (talk · contribs) from Min Yeong-hwan to Min Yongwhan. The new name is obviously wrong as it should be "hwan", not "whan". The standard for articles about Korean people seems to be to have a hyphen between the second and the third syllable, so I suggest that we restore the hypen. The question on whether the "e" should be restored is more subjective. Korean personal names tend to be transcribed to Roman letters in numerous different ways and both versions look valid. • Comment WP:UCN overrides WP:NC-KO, so the question of whether whan is "right" or "wrong" (and whether or not there should be a hyphen, and whether the second syllable should be spelled Yeong or Yong) is determined by actual usage in reliable sources. At first glance, Min Yeonghwan and Min Yeong-hwan both look relatively uncommon, with just 29 and 54 GBooks hits respectively, against 373 for Min Yonghwan.   • Also, in the section above, Idh0854 provided some evidence of the spelling Min Yongwhan in sources contemporary to the actual man. FWIW, here's an Ngrams graph since 1980 (it says Min Yonghwan or Min Yong-hwan are most common recently, and it can't even find any Min Yeong-hwan or Min Yeonghwan.     • There's a very similar question being disputed at Talk:United Provinces of the River Plate#Requested move 9 November 2015: whether to use the English name from recent scholarship or the English name from the English-language sources at the time. How to fix inbox template
