History? edit

Could someone write a section about the history of the company? It would be much appreciated. -- Eptin (talk) 23:19, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Merge Knoll/MillerKnoll? edit

Herman Miller bought Knoll Inc. in 2021 and it's now called MillerKnoll. At some point, the Knoll article should be merged with this article. I'm pretty new to WP editing and don't yet have the technical skills to take this on, but I'd be glad to help with the writing and sourcing. (I just put a similar message on Knoll talk page.) Cheers Cl3phact0 (talk) 07:21, 30 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that's all that necessary, considering how Muuto has an article of its own, even though it's owned by HM. Plus, Knoll has its own products that should be addressed in its own article. If you really feel it is necessary, you might want to read Wikipedia:MERGEINIT, but please familiarise yourself with Wikipedia:MergeReason first. Illuminati42 (talk) 21:19, 7 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Read both, thank you. Makes sense. Perhaps the solution would be a to capture the relevant companies (Knoll, Muuto, Holly Hunt, etc.) in a "List of subsidiaries" within the Herman Miller article (or MillerKnoll, as the case may be). Cheers Cl3phact0 (talk) 04:42, 10 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
PS: Added main "Subsidiaries" to infobox per above.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Cl3phact0 (talkcontribs) 05:07, 28 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

– It seems to me extremely obvious that Herman Miller is the WP:COMMONNAME for this company (and not MillerKnoll), as demonstrated by Google Trends and the fact that on the "news" tab of Google, there are 147,000 results for Herman Miller and only 7,250 results for MillerKnoll, which, for the latter, are mainly financial reports for the company while for the former, news is actually about the company and its products (for example, only "Herman Miller" shows news about its new collaboration with HAY). Thus, Herman Miller is the most recognizable title for the page. As for moving Herman Miller, which is currently a disambiguation page, to Herman Miller (disambiguation), I believe that the furniture company is clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, since the other two pages (a writer and a politician) barely have sources and are hard to find online. Herman Miller Inc. bought Knoll Inc. in 2021. The company is now called MillerKnoll Inc. and trades as MLKN (NASDAQ). Cheers Cl3phact0 (talk) 10:36, 6 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, of course, but Wikipedia article title policy looks for the name that is most commonly used to refer to the company. With the release of the Vantum chair today, not a single article on it mentions "MillerKnoll", only "Herman Miller". Wikipedia article titles aren't based on the official name, but rather what people are most likely to search for or expect. When someone looks up this company on Wikipedia, they expect to be directed to an article titled "Herman Miller", not "MillerKnoll". Illuminati42 (talk) 21:39, 6 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Got it. Maybe in time the new name will get more recognition, although it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue: "MillerKnoll". (Also, please see note above re: merging the article with Knoll article.) Thanks Cl3phact0 (talk) 07:28, 7 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have a feeling that the company appears to see "MillerKnoll" as the corporation, the "mother ship" as it were. It is pretty clear that they intend to keep the Herman Miller and Knoll identities separate. Even on the MillerKnoll web page "Our Brands," Herman Miller and Knoll are both listed as separate and unique brands within the parent MillerKnoll company structure.
I agree that it has been confusing. MillerKnoll seemed to indicate that it would be the new brand identity instead of "Herman Miller," but that doesn't seem to be how it has played out over the past year. JaySacto (talk) 21:33, 10 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge of Mirra chair into Herman Miller edit

I’m not sure if the chair itself is notable, but it certainly does seem notable for the company that one of its chairs won industry awards for ergonomics and for sustainability. Silvester (talk) 23:20, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Indifferent about merge, though happy to help add relevant information if needed. Added wikilink from "Notable products" section in the meantime. Cheers Cl3phact0 (talk) 15:48, 16 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: Some moved. Herman Miller (Wisconsin politician) moved to Herman Miller (politician), rest left in place. (closed by non-admin page mover) -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 08:49, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

– The company does not appear to be primary over the combined notability of the politician and the writer. As for the parenthetical qualifier "(company)", Category:Furniture companies of the United States lists Haworth (company), HSM (company) and Turnstone (company). Also, since there are no other politicians named "Herman Miller", the qualifier "(Wisconsin politician)" can be reduced to "(politician)". Finally, if the company is not primary, the dab page would not need the qualifier "(disambiguation)". A tangentially related nomination is currently active at Talk:Hermann Müller (politician, born 1876)#Requested move 1 December 2023. — Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 01:51, 2 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

However, support the second move per 162 etc.'s comments below. Dekimasuよ! 02:47, 3 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, this is a justified primary topic. 162 etc. (talk) 17:35, 2 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
However, the second request, Herman Miller (Wisconsin politician)Herman Miller (politician), is probably correct. 162 etc. (talk) 17:38, 2 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree. — BarrelProof (talk) 23:12, 2 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also agreed. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:24, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose first as presented, but I would support a move of Herman Miller back to MillerKnoll, as this article is primarily about the company, not the brand. Support second, as unrelated to the first move this one is still a good move for the nom's reasoning. Oppose third. Even if Herman Miller is moved to MillerKnoll per my proposal, I still think it is a good primary search term for "Herman Miller", so the redirect left by the first move (in this case to MillerKnoll) would still be useful.
