So What

I'm listening to the record and So What a) is live, and b) [partly therefore] is not the studio version from Kind of Blue. Shazam claims it's from the May 19, 1961 Carnegie Hall Concert, and that actually is the credit on the record sleeve, but then the time listed here must be wrong. I just listened to it and it's the regular studio version. So maybe there are multiple version of this Greatest Hits album?--Stuart H. Alden (talk) 02:04, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

Album attribution incorrect for 'So What' and 'Walkin'

'So What' is from Miles Davis at Carnegie Hall 1962. 'Walkin is from Miles Davis in Europe 1964.

The complete list of Albums on 'Greatest Hits' is:

'Round About Midnight 1957, Someday My Prince Will Come 1961, Miles Davis at Carnegie Hall 1962, Seven Steps to Heaven 1963, Miles Davis in Europe 1964, My Funny Valentine 1964, and E.S.P. 1965; release dates.

'All Blues' from My Funny Valentine 1964. All other songs from the album of the same title.

'So What' is clearly a live cut. The presence of George Coleman on nearly all the tracks indicates a very narrow ranges of dates for those tracks. He wasn't with Davis long. It's practically a 'highlights from the George Coleman period' album.

Different Versions

There appear to be two separate vinyl releases of this album, one from 1969, and one from 1977, based on the information for PC 9808 on Discogs. I think this accounts for the discrepancy between different personnel and recording dates. I know that what is currently listed is not accurate for my album sleeve or my album (e.g. So What is live in my edition) but I don’t know which release I have.
