The name

Nitendude had moved this to Mile Road System (Michigan), and I moved it back mostly because I had thought it was specific to the metro detroit area, but also because there are quite a few double redirects that need to be fixed if the page is moved. I can see that the article has info on several other counties throughout Michigan, so the Ninedude's name might actually be OK. But please, if page is moved again, please go though What links here and fix any of the resulting double-redirects. older ≠ wiser 20:42, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Many counties in Michigan have mile road systems, and I don't find any of them terribly notable. What use is an encyclopedia page noting the mile roads of a county and their other names? I'd rather look at a map. The description of the layout of a county's roads would me more appropriate on that county's particlar article page.Segelflugzeugwettbewerber 22:42, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

I see no problem with the content of the current article, but the name of the article doesn't follow the style guide. When there is no article at mile road system there is no need for a disambiguated article named Mile Road System (Detroit). —pfahlstrom 22:01, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Article Cleanup

• I'd like to see the Bay and Midland County Mile Roads be moved to a seperate article to keep this one about the Detroit system specifically.
• In addition , I think the use of Bold font is a bit excessive and should be fixed
• Also, I think we could merge the Oakland and Macomb names into one list - as the article is cluttered enough already.

Why "Mile" and not "Miles"?

This question may sound stupid to native speakers (which I am not), but could some kind soul enlarge upon the question why a road which is (e.g.) 8 miles away from the starting point (Michigan Avenue) still called 8 Mile Road and not 8 Miles Road? Well it would make sense if you called it "Mile 14" instead of "Miles 14"... I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, though. By the way I live south of that one =). Hmm, maybe it's for the sake of saying it out loud, like "It's at the intersection of 14 Miles and Coolidge." "14 miles what?" or something. Zaita (talk) 15:14, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

I think "the Eight Mile road" (as it is styled in formal legal documents) parses out the same as the 3-meter springboard [for diving] or the seven-year itch. Question of highest number in D.E. system

The attribution to Detroit Edison is common usage in greater Detroit, see e.g. http://www.ci.lapeer.mi.us/documents/Chapter%2051%20-%20Address%20Numbering.pdf .

Given the rate of (ex)urban development in the vicinity of Memphis, MI during recent years, I’m not comfortable even asserting that the specific address 81950 is still extant. But almost surely the highest numbered address in greater Detroit is in the 81900’s.

Numbers on U. S. Highway 395 in Topaz, CA go at least as high as 120396 -- see real estate listings at http://real-estate.nextag.com/bath_under-1/Topaz/California/homes-html. I suspect they don't get much higher, as Google Maps puts this just short of the Nevada border. The numbering system appears to allow approximately 1000 numbers per mile, from Bishop, California about 120 miles away. Izzycat (talk) 13:58, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
