Talk:Mike Huckabee 2008 presidential campaign

POV Issues edit

This article seems biased towards Mike Huckabee; there's no quotes from anyone who disagreed with him standing for President, despite plenty in favour of him; among the plenty which could be added is New Scientist magazine's opposition [1], Bob Klaus's change of heart [2] and Michael Moore's attack on him over health-care [3]. A Google news search turns up plenty more balanced stories to use.[4] I don't know a lot about US politics, though, so I'm not knowledgeable enough on the context to make these sorts of changes myself. Laïka 18:44, 26 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it's that biased. There could be some criticisms of his campaign but it's not propaganda. Why do we need to put Michael Moore in the article? He's not important in the Huckabee campaign.

We have lots of news reports which praise the guy, many of them from reporters/commentators no more related to the Huckabee campaign than Michael Moore. Besides which, Michael Moore is a pretty high profile guy (one of the best known liberals); surely his opinions on the campaign are quite valid? Laïka 21:07, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
They still don't have relevance in this article. I'm removing the neutrality tag until someone points out a specific area of POV. Weatherman90 02:39, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
At first glance, this just looks like it was edited by the Mike Huckabee campaign team, it's all about his achievements and him beating other candidates. Surely with this much unfettered support for the guy there should be a 'fair and balanced' view? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.105.188.239 (talk) 19:34, August 22, 2007 (UTC)
In the endorsements section it claims that the core of huckabee's support came from the Homeschooling movement? That sounds like someone didn't want to come out and say that he was voted in by evangelical christians. Serious doubts about this articles neutrality.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.154.83.104 (talk) 03:41, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Campaign Advisors edit

I know that it isn't common to include a section on campaign staff/advisors, but I think that in the light of recent developments (ie: Carl Rove, Harriet Miers, Michael Brown etc.) there is a growing concern over a candidate's ability to choose staffmembers. Some of these advisors are potential cabinet members should the candidate be elected. I am proposing the inclusion of prominent staff/advisors (and a short bio) to all candidates' campaign entries in order to help voters better understand each candidates' ability to judge character. I believe that attention is inordinately focussed on individual candidates, when in fact, the major influence on any new administration will be in the advisors surrounding the new president. Your input would be greatly appreciated. ----Rawkcuf. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rawkcuf (talkcontribs) 04:51, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Huckabee08.gif edit

Image:Huckabee08.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image edit

As on the main Mike Huckabee page, I have removed the highly biased, unencyclopedic image, replacing it with an older image of Huckabee taken from more journalistic sources, which has not been photomanipulated, and isn't, as one other editor described it, a 'superman image'. ThuranX (talk) 01:16, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The imagine has not been deemed unbias by anyone but yourself which raises suspicion of your own intentions. I will agree to not change the image on the main Mike Huckabee page, but this Wikipedia Page is on Huckabee's 2008 Presidential Campaign and it is not fitting to use a image of him as governor when another image taken during his presidential run is available for public domain use on Wikipedia, not to mention the picture being an "unencyclopedic image" is ridiculous and I take offense to the claim that I am only doing this on political bias. It is simply for better use of Wikipedia users and I think that should all be our first interest.

If there are other problems with the image, please address them here before another unwarranted removal. Rtr10 (talk) 01:54, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image should not be removed without proper discussion. Has been stated repeatedly that the image does not break any Wikipedia Policies or Rules and should not be removed based on someones personal opinion, especially of a person who is not an administrator or a working contributor to political pages. Questions of political motivation then must be raised and this should not be a political debate. It is a profile image for a republican candidate running for President of the United States, nothing more, nothing less. Rtr10 (talk) 09:15, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unrelated to the article but you might get a kick out of this image comparison [5]--mitrebox (talk) 03:29, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sections edit

The "Paul-Huckabee exchange" and "Lincoln-Douglas Debate" sections need to be merged into the "Campaign developments" section or created into their own "Debates" section. This would organized the article better and help with the flow.--STX 20:35, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

A debate is a campaign development; I've never seen the purpose of collecting debates as a top-level section of their own. Wasted Time R (talk) 12:01, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ron Paul and Fascism edit

It should be noted that Paul hadn't actually seen the ad when he made that statement. The news anchor asked him what he thought of the cross in Huckabee's ad, and that was his response. He apologized later.--Alfredie (talk) 06:28, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Campaign Ads edit

Should the page list or link to campaign ads put out by Mike Huckabee? I watched Huckabee's Michigan ad and was struck at effective it was at persuading people to vote for Huckabee. Themes: losing manufacturing jobs, credit crisis, anti-elitist message...taps into a fears of economic insecurity. Or a related idea, should the page have critiques and reviews of campaign ads? That would probably be better and more NPOV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMaJ0KtTcr0 Jmegill (talk) 17:05, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

If an ad becomes notable then yes. Notable meaning if a network refuses to run an ad, a superbowl ad, a debate specifically brings up an ad. If you can find several real articles (newspaper, television) story (not blogs, the difference is that a network feels the story is big enough to justify the costs of a reporters time/potential loss of other stories) that talk specifically about one ad its likely notable. The ad that Huck declined to run could be noted here and linked. --mitrebox (talk) 03:35, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Colbert endorsement edit

This might be nitpicky, but I spotted that Stephen Colbert was listed as someone endorsing Huckabee. While he certainly is endorsing him in his character on TV, it is unlikely he is doing so in real life (Colbert is actually a liberal whose on-screen character satirizes conservatism). I'm not sure Colbert should be listed as an actual endorser of Huckabee. If so, it should be noted that Colbert's character endorses Huckabee (and likely so he can promote the "Colbert bump"), not the actor/host himself. 71.106.31.123 (talk) 07:23, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Popularity among young voters? edit

This section fails to communicate that Hucakbee is "popular" among young voters. MTV did a story on him... he's mentioned on the Daily Show, etc... I don't get the connection. Are there exit polls that show he has done significantly better than other candidates among young VOTERS? And what is considered "young"? I don't see these questions answered here. Paisan30 (talk) 07:26, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kenneth Copeland edit

While not an official endorsement, there should be some mention of televangelist Kenneth Copeland having Huckabee on Copeland's show, and a later incident where Huckabee contacted Copeland requesting financial support during a minister's conference. Image copyright problem with Image:MikeHuckabee08.png edit

The image Image:MikeHuckabee08.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.
