Mike Burns and Black Confederate soldiers

edit

"On December 13, 2017, Burns and fellow South Carolina representative Bill Chumley proposed building a monument to South Carolina's black Confederate soldiers, although the historical record shows that no such soldiers existed.

The previous entry is untrue. The topic was the First Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment, "the first officially recognized black unit of the Union Army during the Civil War." The reference is a short history of the regiment."

Not sure what to do with this entry. All the evidence that I looked at talks about Black Union Army soldiers. Not seeing any credible reference to black Confederate soldiers. Reps. Burns and Chumley did offer the referred to bill, though. ProfessorKaiFlai (talk) 17:38, 18 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

At the very least the entire second paragraph you quoted is not encyclopedic. And I concur that any reference to Burns and a black soldier monument refers to him supporting it for Confederate soldiers. The source provided does not even mention Burns by name. I'm going to remove the second paragraph since it is entirely unrelated to Burns; if there is further disagreement we can discuss putting it back but it seems unneeded and confrontational.
