Middle Tennessee Medical Center is a 286-bed private, not-for-profit hospital located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. MTMC is a member of Saint Thomas Health Services. A replacement hospital building is under construction, and the hospital expects to move into the new building some time in 2010.[1][2] A Physicians Medical Office Building is also under construction.[3] The Middle Tennessee Center for Lung Disease has leased space in one of the hospital's new buildings.[4]

The hospital spent more than $30 million in care on uninsured patients in fiscal year 2009.[5]

The New MTMC edit

In 2006, MTMC announced plans to build a new 286-bed hospital to replace its 80-year-old facility.[1] Groundbreaking festivities were held in early 2008, followed by a topping out ceremony six months later.[2][6]

The 556,361-square foot facility will be the focal point of a 68.5-acre medical campus. Two patient towers will contain 286 all-private patient rooms. Other features include a 32-bed intensive care unit, a 21,000-square-foot emergency department, expanded maternity services, and a surgical suite with 10 operating rooms.[7]

Total cost for the construction project is estimated at $286 million. Completion is scheduled for Aug. 2, 2010. New patients will be admitted starting in November 2010.[8]

Saint Thomas Heart edit

The cardiology doctor groups of the four hospitals of Saint Thomas Health Services (Saint Thomas Hospital, Baptist Hospital, Middle Tennessee Medical Center and Hickman Community Hospital) combined in 2007 to form Saint Thomas Heart. The group works with clinics and health care facilities throughout Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky in more than 20 counties.[9]

In 2008, Thomson Reuters named Saint Thomas Heart to its list of top 100 cardiovascular community hospitals.[10]

Chest Pain Network edit

The Saint Thomas Chest Pain Network is a division of Saint Thomas Health Services that coordinates with local emergency medical services (EMS) and hospitals to provide cardiac care services. The Chest Pain Network includes 14 hospitals in Tennessee and Kentucky, all accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.[11]

The Saint Thomas Chest Pain Network is among the largest networks of chest pain centers in the nation.[12] The Accredited Chest Pain Center Model is an operational process for the care of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients, beginning from the moment EMS is called and continuing through discharge.
