Taxonomy: For all marine species, Project Gastropods uses the taxonomy in the online database WoRMS. When starting a new article, do not use sources of taxonomic information that predate the 2017 revision for all gastropod groups ("Revised Classification, Nomenclator and Typification of Gastropod and Monoplacophoran Families" by Philippe Bouchet & Jean-Pierre Rocroi, Bernhard Hausdorf, Andrzej Kaim, Yasunori Kano, Alexander Nützel, Pavel Parkhaev, Michael Schrödl and Ellen E. Strong in Malacologia, 2017, 61(1–2): 1–526.) (can be dowloaded at Researchgate.net), substituting the previous classification of 2005 Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). Prickly Pear Island snail → Micrarionta opuntia – The most common name for this taxon. Multiple vernacular names are used with varying spaces and hyphens. Also often referred to without a vernacular name at all. Current title is also improperly capitalized. — Hyperik ⌜talk⌟ 13:09, 31 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Move - not from Prickly Pear Island, but eats prickly-pear which is why there is hyphenation chaos. Don’t see any hits on scholar for the vernacular. --awkwafaba (📥) 16:32, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Support. The scientific name is most commonly used in reliable sources. Snails are more CONSISTENTly and PRECISEly named by scientific name, not vernacular names. Plantdrew (talk) 04:25, 8 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
