Early life Just a few points which came up at the Harvey Family and Merv Harvey reviews:

  • "The Harveys played another form of cricket in their concreted backyard (using a marble instead of a ball) that sharpened their reflexes,[2] and a miniature bat." A bit muddled here, I think. Either the brackets should go, or the info about the bat should go inside.
  • "The club had a program whereby they gave a medal to local schools to award to their best cricketer in their ranks, who would then be given access to all of the club’s facilities.": Did every school get a medal, or just the best cricketers from several schools? Also, a bit too much going on in the sentence, a few too many "to"s.
  • "and their father, although regularly at the club": Does not read well: "a regular presence", as per Harvey family?

World War II and first-class debut

  • "In 1942–43, Neil broke into Fitzroy’s First XI, joining his older brothers Merv, Mick and Ray." Not sure this is relevant to the article on Mick, unless you were going to give the starting years for all the brothers, which seems excessive. Also, it starts to become a little confusing if so many brothers are mentioned in three successive sentences.
  • "held down the first four batting positions" is a bit jargony. Maybe lose "down" or "filled the first four batting positions". Also, related to above point, maybe add "In 1942–43..." if you take out the sentence about Neil.
  • A bit of a flow problems with the war stuff: we have his rank, then when he joined up, then his discharge and then where he served. I would suggest putting it chronologically: join up, rank, service, discharge.

Move to Queensland

  • Maybe link or explain "grade club".
  • Was he still opening the batting for Queensland when he started? It seems that way as he was opening for Victoria, then batted three in the second game of 50/51.

  • "convert his starts" is jargony.

  • This section is a little repetetive to read: lots of sentences start with "he" or "Harvey". Any chance of a bit more variety?
I can't think of any other way, without getting yelled at for being indirect; calling Meckiff the Left-hander, etc YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 03:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Decline

  • "Noted for his sound defence, he was a patient and dogged batsman, in contrast to the exciting styles of brothers Merv, Ray and Neil. According to Neil, Mick had a weakness against spin bowling.[20]" Does all this come from Neil or is the "patient and dogged" from somewhere else?
It ws froma later ref that got cut in. YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 03:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • "(mostly as an opener)": As above, not clear when he was opening and when he wasn't.

Umpiring career

  • "In 1978–79, Harvey’s appointments increased as many players and umpires left establishment cricket to sign up with the breakaway World Series Cricket (WSC)." I think this needs a ref.
Removed. Maybe the preexisting comment was wrong; CA has empty umpire info mostly YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 03:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • His matches in 79-80 are split over 3 paragraphs which makes it a little confusing. Could they be placed together a bit more?
Yeah. YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 03:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • I already know the answer to this, but it's worth a try! Any info on his umpiring? Controversies? Decisions? How he was rated? Anything? No, I didn't think so!
Right you are YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 03:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sourcing etc fine. I'll have another look later, and if you haven't had a chance, I'll put it on hold. But no real problems and should pass easily. --Sarastro1 (talk) 09:28, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

All fine, passing now. Shame there's no ref for the WSC umpires, even if it just states that many umps defected. --Sarastro1 (talk) 09:05, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
