Patrol Car Cleanup

I started overhauling the patrol car section. The phrase, Recently, however, the use of a single overhead rotating light has caused concern due to its apparent lack of warning power. doesn't appear to have any supporting documentation or relevance. I'm commenting it out for now. If anybody can support it with a reference, please do so and reinsert it. Until then I'm putting a verification tag on the section.Nick 01:14, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

That phrase couldn't be more false than it sounds. The MSP will continue to use the Unity RV25SP until Unity stops making them. If anything was cancelled, the custom "Spitfire" lens (red lens with clear bands) was allegedly put to rest. Note that some blue goose's have the RV45SP beacon that has four 100 Watt halogen bulbs instead of the RV25SP's two bulbs. Oh and yes - they are the same bulbs used in DC-9's for their landing lights. They only have a 20hr lifespan so it isn't that uncommon to see a car with one bulb out. Anonymouse

To touch on this subject again. Whoever indicated that "the single overhead warning light has caused concern due to it's apparent lack of warning power" speaks out of ignorance. Clearly this "source" has never seen this light in use. In daytime, bright sunlight as well as inclement weather, times that clearly try the effectiveness of any warning light, the MSP Unity Light OUTPERFORMS ANY AND ALL lights on the market BAR NONE!!

This light is omnidirectional and visible for miles. The only advantage a "lightbar" has is the multi use modes they have. The multiple flashes due to reflectors,the multiple colors due to multiple lenses, and of course the takedown and alley lights. Many people are like a moth to a flame. They are attracted to all the "fancy bells and whistles" on many lightbars. These things just raise the price needlessly and are just waiting to break down. None however, have the brightness and intensity nor the reach that the Unity Light, currently in use by the Michigan State Police, has. (Anonymous II)

This area is dated and needs updating or removal. The MSP has undergone a few realignments since this was originally posted and is now inaccurate. Door Shield Picture

This not a Michigan State Police door shield. Although this is a variant of the MSP shield, it's no longer used by the Michigan State Police. The one pictured was heavily used in the late '90s and early '00s. See www.mi.gov/msp for the official shield. The shields on the doors have a few colors in it.
