Talk:Michal Temkin Martinez

Contested deletion edit

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because...

I have not finished editing the Wikipedia page. Michal Temkin Martinez is an meets the criteria as laid out on the notability (academics) Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(academics)) due to being an editor of Language, the premier journal for the field of Linguistics (criteria 8). Additionally, she is the current Junior Chair of Committee for Endangered Languages and their Preservation and was the former chair of Linguistics in Higher Education Committee (LiHEC) in 2014. These committees are affiliated with the Linguistic Society of America, a major authority in the field of Linguistics since its inception in 1924, and chairing these committees are accomplishments that meet Wikipedia notability criteria 6. Her work with the endangered language Chizigula, also called Zigula language, is also notable as linguists working on this language are few and her use of experimental methodology in documenting the pre-nasalized stops in the language was a significant contribution to the understanding of the phenomena in this language.

Please remove the request for a speedy deletion as more information will be added to this Wikipedia page and as Temkin Martinez meets the academic notability guidelines as outlined by Wikipedia.

Proposed rewrite with in-line citations edit

I am a previous student of Dr Temkin Martinez and have a conflict of interest. I came across the page by accident and noticed both errors and broken links. I am proposing the following to fix those issues and allow for the removal of the current maintenance templates.

Proposed New Article Body:

Michal Temkin Martinez is a linguist who has worked on Somali Chizigula and Modern Hebrew. Temkin Martinez received her PhD from University of Southern California in 2010.[1] She is currently a professor at Boise State University and is the founding director of the Mary Ellen Ryder Linguistics Lab. Her current research focuses on languages spoken in refugee communities and integrating experimental methodology with language documentation.[2]

In spring 2010, Temkin Martinez worked with retired Boise State professor Jon Dayley to create the Boise Language Project (BLP). The project objective is "to document the languages spoken by those arriving to Boise as refugees while serving that community through outreach activities".[3]. As an initiative of the Mary Ellen Ryder Linguistics Lab, the project also provides internship experience in language documentation for undergraduate students of linguistics at Boise State. As of 2021, Temkin Martinez is the director of the program. She also directs the Languages of Boise project, which seeks to develop a web application hosting resources and information about languages spoken by refugees in Boise, Idaho to improve communication between refugees and service providers in the area.[4][5]

Since 2010, Temkin Martinez has worked with Jon Dayley and Mwaliko Mberwa to develop the first dictionary of Somali Chizigula (Swahili: Kizigua, also known as Mushungulu) and English.[6][4] In January 2020 the web edition of the dictionary, Chizigula of Somalia Dictionary, was formally published at Webonary, where it has been hosted since 2013.[7][8]

Temkin Martinez is an Associate Editor of the Teaching Linguistics section of Language, the journal of the Linguistic Society of America (LSA).[9] In 2018 Temkin Martinez served as the Senior Chair of the LSA's Committee on Endangered Languages and their Preservation (CELP).[10]
