Recent unexplained deletions of well-referenced content edit
This article has recently seen a repeated pattern of wholesale deletion of content that is relevant and well-sourced but presumably not to the liking of the article's subject, by IP users without any explanation: [1][2][3]
I'm asking the anonymous editor (or editors) to stop these wholesale deletions without any justifications, and to be aware Wikipedia articles are not CVs or promotional tools for their subjects, but are subject to a neutral point of view policy.
For the record, the deleted content in its most recent version is reproduced below:
- [Michael S. Schmidt] has been the lead reporter behind The Times's articles about the Hillary Clinton email controversy, some of which have drawn criticism for inaccuracies and for an alleged reliance on selective leaks from the United States House Select Committee on Benghazi.[1][2] As summarized by Mother Jones, "virtually everything ... turned out to be wrong" about a story where Michael S. Schmidt and his co-author Matt Apuzzo had reported that Clinton was the target of a criminal probe for her handling of classified information.[3]
- In December 2015, another New York Times story by Schmidt and Apuzzo (written together with Julia Preston) criticized the US government for missing crucial evidence during the visa vetting process for a woman who would later become one of the shooters in the San Bernardino attack.[3] The director of the FBI dismissed the reporting as "garble" and it turned out that rather than having "talked openly on social media about her views on violent jihad" as stated in the NYT article, she had mentioned these in private communications.[4]
- The New York Times' public editor called for "systemic changes" after these two erroneous articles by Schmidt and his coauthors (both of which had relied on anonymous government sources), describing these problems as a "red alert" highlighting the need for more diligent and skeptical reporting and editing.[4]
