Date of Birth edit

According to the article sourced (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/aug/06/michael-oliver-premier-league-select-referee) from the guardian,

"Attwell was 25 years and 322 days old when he took charge of Blackburn Rovers' 1-1 draw with Hull in August 2008. Oliver, who turned 25 in February, will break the record if he officiates any top-flight game on or before 6 January 2011."

I've backdated the calculations to 18th February 1985, but this could be out by 1 day or so. If someone wants to double check the date math and see whether its correct it would be appreciated Seedybob (talk) 14:40, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Controversies edit

I recorded the fact that at the Reading v Norwich match refereed by Oliver on 13th November 2010, that his action in red-carding the Norwich player Grant Holt was criticised not only by the Norwich manager but by the Reading manager too. For some reason this pertinent fact was removed by someone. I'm not clear why, because it seems very relevant information to my mind. Strangerbird (talk) 09:50, 17 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Arsenal vs United - FA Cup edit

Buffon Red Card. edit

The current statement regarding the Buffon Red card reads "captain Gianluigi Buffon at the centre of the confrontation, he was shown a red card for dissent;"

The issue with this statement, is that it's incorrect.

Under the The IFAB Laws of the Game, Buffon was shown a red card for "using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures". Dissent, under the Laws of the Game is a Red Card. Oliver, a FIFA Referee, would obviously know the difference between dissent, and OFINABUS.

Can the article please be edited to reflect the correct offence under the laws of the game.

Thank you,

A Football & Futsal Referee of 15 years. LobsterDarren (talk) 12:47, 12 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Michael Oliver is a Croatian superfan but an English referee. He helped Croatia with their win against Brazil.
