Dry Ginger

edit

I cannot find the biography of the subject of this article, but his nickname ‘Dry Ginger’ came from his abolishing the rum ration, effective 1 July 1970. This should be mentioned. JDAWiseman (talk) 21:56, 2 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

The abolition of the rum ration has also been attributed to Peter Hill-Norton, Baron Hill-Norton in his role as Second Sea Lord. See the article on him. Dormskirk (talk) 22:48, 2 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I think he was called dry ginger before the abolition of the ration, which would in any case have been a matter for the 2nd, being chief of naval personnel. The ration was unpopular with naval architects, bSeadowns (talk) 12:20, 3 January 2017 (UTC)ecause of the space it took up to provide a secure compartment.Reply

Character

It may be this is not the place, but I feel something should be said about his exceptional powers of leadership, and his lack of pomposity and formality, that earned him an unparallelled devotion. I cannot give references, and Wiki does not like personal reminiscences. Can anybody help? Seadowns (talk) 12:10, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
