Untitled edit

Michael E. Raynor is one of the leading authorities on business strategy in the world.

He co-wrote The Innovator's Solution with Clayton M. Christensen.

Christensen's wiki entry references Mr. Raynor.

Thank you for your consideration,

Declining Speedy Delete edit

This isn't a speedy candidate. If someone wants to make a case for deletion here it needs to go through Wikipedia:Articles for Deletion.--Isotope23 19:43, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Concerns about notability edit

I am concerned that this person is not notable. He is called a "best-selling" author, but there is no mention of how many books he sold or what list he was the "best-seller" on. That appears to be the only claim to notability that I can find in the article (just having a list of publications is something every PhD degree-holder has and is not sufficient to be "notable"). This article reads like a resume. Since I am not familiar with the business journals or his books' subject matter, I would like to ask if anyone can explain why they believe he is notable. Otherwise, I am tempted to list this article for deletion. - grubber 16:51, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability edit

Raynor's first book, The Innovator's Solution (TIS), was a Business Week and NYT list best seller. It sold approximately 150,000 copies worldwide, and has been translated into a dozen languages. TIS is on its way to becoming the best-selling book on disruption theory, which is one of the most important contributions to a theory of innovation in commercial markets since the "product lifecycle" in the 1950s. As co-author of that book, Raynor would appear to clear the bar for inclusion in Wiki. Anyone who wants to follow-up on the writings on Christensen should be able to find some basic facts about his co-authors on Wiki, Raynor included.

Can you provide dates that it was on the BW or NYT best-seller list? Or a source for that statement. That would help secure notability in my mind. - grubber 19:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • NYT Bestseller. [1]

Notababilty and other issues edit

Hi there,

Bluestripe has asked for me to have a look at this article, and whether it has any issues. Generally speaking it is well written with good format, style, linking, categories, photo etc... good job.

The only issue that really needs to be resolved is whether the subject is notable or not. I think a lot of work has gone on since I last looked at this page, and the fact that Raynor has two "best selling" books is likely IMHO to tip the balance in him being notable, and hence worthy on a Wikipedia article.

(Also I think some more wikilinking may be needed for things like - metaphysics, Magna cum Laude, John Harvard - though these will be minor fixes).

So good job people and good luck. I will certainly not be putting it up for WP:AFD which I think it would pass. Cheers Lethaniol 14:08, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I would just like to make sure he really is notable. I'm a bit dubious when the article was created "with the permission" of Raynor. - grubber 19:45, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Here are links to recent reviews of Dr. Raynor's latest book: The Strategy Paradox. All you had to do, grubber, was take a little time to google Michael E. Raynor and you would have found the substance for notability you desire. He is the co-author of The Innovator's Solution, which is a notable business book. One example. [3] And, please, let's try to remember Wikipedia:AGF. Hope this helps. Bluestripe 15:11, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bluestripe, I am making every stab I can to give you (or whoever) a shot at establishing notability. I did do that search, and I checked Amazon, but I wasnt convinced. We don't do articles on WP with the permission of people... that smacks of self-promotion. You've provided the links, and I'm satisifed. Thanks. - grubber 17:14, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • You meant, "whomever." And, I respect your point-of view. Nevertheless, if you are concerned I am Raynor; then rest assured I am not. I love business. That's all. Bluestripe 00:11, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Please note that a Deletion Review debate on the subject of the book The Strategy Paradox - see here Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2007_March_8 - is soon likely to close with an Overturn verdict. This obviously affects the notability of this person greatly. Cheers Lethaniol 19:31, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. - grubber 21:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
