Mianwali is in Southern Punjab edit

Someone had written that Mianwali is in northern Punjab. It is in South of Pakistani Punjab.Note that South Punjab in pakistan as often referred to as Siraiki belt. The headquarter or unofficial capital of Saraiki region is Multan.Otherm major Siraiki cities are Bahwalpur,Mianwali,Muzaffargarh and Kundian. --Yahoo 14:36, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Naeem Qasai i thank you all to participate in a topic to update it.B living in mianwali, two things are confirmed..one is that mianwali is situated in north west of punjab and the second is that niazis are in majority which include pashtuns and saraiki niazis.majority speaks saraiki which has different acsent than multani saraiki but it does not matter because every language changes its acsent as distances increas for example saraiki of multan and bahawalpur is also different.ali usman Ali usmani (talk) 19:43, 27 January 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ali usmani (talkcontribs) 19:33, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I endorse it, another thing is important and should be changed that according to cenusu 2017, the saraiki language is being spoken in Mianwali district is 76 percent of total population, please correct it. Thanks. Engr.ismailbhutta (talk) 07:11, 23 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Mianwali in Panjab edit

According to Naeem Qasai Mianwali is in south Panjab. Actually Mianwali is in North-Westren Panjab Bordering Bannu, Lakki Marwat in west, Kohat and Karak in North west and D.I.Khan in southwest. Mianwali is located along the bank of river Indus. One other thing Mianwali is not a Saraiki speaking area. The language spoken in Mianwali is the combination of Panjabi and Saraiki. The Tehsil of Isa-Khel is mostly Pashto speaking. Most of the people of Mianwali are bilingual. Basically Saraiki is not a so old language, in terms of the word Saraiki. The word Saraiki means Sar Ki in Sindhi meaning the people living at the head of Indus, and the word Saraiki was officially used first time in 1970s before that it was considered as Punjabi (Multani Panjabi or Multani) in old litrature. 90% of the population of the District Mianwali is Afghan (Locally known as Pathans or Pashtuns), including Niazai (Niazi) Tribe, Khataks, Kakars, Marwats. others are Awans, Baloch, and Jats. I agree with you, i personally have friendship with many Mianwalians and i personally feel that language of Mianwali is not Saraiki, i think it is Shahpuri perhaps differs from Punjabi This dialect is spoken in Pakistani Punjab. The Shahpuri language has been spoken by the people of the town Shahpur. This language has been spoken by the people of District Sargodha including Dera Chanpeer Shah, Khushab, Jhang, Mianwali, Attock, parts of Faisalabad (foremerly Lyallpur), parts of Dera Ismail Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalnagar, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab and Mandi Bahauddin districts.. Niazis are Afghans edit

Actually the climate of the district made the people dark skind. The cross bread is also a factor. U should also have visited bannu who are afghans but of dark skin.

Niazis are Afghans if you read the history... the population in Isa Khel Tehsil is 95% afghan. Mushanis, Isa-Khel, Khataks, Kakarhs, Sultan-Khels are all Afghans. Khataks and Kakarhs are not Niazis but others are. If you cross the river Indus, Musa Khel, Daud Khel and other tribes are afghans... there are Awans also living in the district but near the borders of Chakwal Distt.

If not 90%, 70 to 80% population is Afghan.

The language change is due to bussines interactions with punjabi population.

and one other thing Marrwat tribe is of same line as the Niazis are. Both are Lodhi Afghans. For detailed Information Mr. Jawwad Marwat you can contact me on 0300-6084716. Im from Mianwali.Zaigham Khan Niazi. Niazi 13:26, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Only Pashto speaking are not pathan people. edit

It's misconception in Pakistani people that pathans are those who can speak pashto, who ever cant speak pushto are not pathan what ever the roots are.I just want to say that niazi are not only pathan who cant speak pushto there are many pathans in india who cant speak pushto, with the time they forgot their language so it dosnt mean that they are not pathan. --82.3.227.101 23:28, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Asif Rizwan Khan Niazi from London.Reply

first of all, pathans remain pathans. and who was saying anything about niazi's being dark skinned. we are not thirdly, this is a pathan district, and thus would one day be part of greater pukhtoonistan —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.152.31.4 (talk) 08:02, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some facts about Mianwali edit

I have often seen exaggeration and tampering of historical facts by some of my Niazi fellows. Firstly the population of the district is not predominantly of afghan descent ( as you mentioned 90% ). Yes! Sultan Khels , Khattaks and Bhangi Khels ( a variant of the latter)are of afghan origin apart from main stream Niazis, but they form only simple majority. Secondly the location is in north western punjab , not in the southern punjab. Thirdly language, no doubt unique but is definitly a dialect of Seraiki which ofcourse is the most resilient language of this whole region of present day Pakistan and is second to none. Fourthly , our district is not only famous for being home to Niazis , but there is significant Awan population who are equally brave people and one of them ( i think Lance Naik Sher Shah of Chakrala) holds Victoria Cross while serving in the colonial army. They are living with us for last 600 hundred years not only in Mianwali Salt Range but also in plains. Similarly our district is famous for being home to Kundi tribe of supposed Jat (some say Pathan ) ancestory and they are rendering yeomen service for the progress of our area. Not to forget Syeds who are respected ones and as well as politically influential people.
What we need to stress is to project our unique culture which is blend of afghan, seraiki and punjabi cultures. We are brave people and this bravery does not come from our blood line but from the deep rooted traditions of valiance that have existed in this region for centuries. We should be proud of our unique seraiki dialect that borrows many words from potohari , punjabi, pashto and southern hindko. There is no question of who is pathan and who is not , what we know are the ground realities that we live in punjab province and our future is linked with this province and now we have many things in common with them and they have assimilated us as punjabis and respect us as being punjabis. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.103.2.206 (talk) 20:53, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

i quote wikipedia

During the reign of the Lodi and Suri sultans of Delhi, the Prangi and Suri tribes from which these dynasties sprang, and their neighbors the Niazi, seem to have migrated almost bodily from Afghanistan into Pakistan, where the Niazi rose to considerable power, one of their being the Governor of Lahore. In the early days of Akbar's reign the Lohani, another Lodi tribe, who had been expelled by the Sulaiman Khel Ghilzai from their homes in Katawaz in the Ghazni mountains, crossed the Sulaiman range, the other Lodi tribes were too weak to resist them; and they removed the remaining Prangi and Suri from the Tank. The Lohani are divided into four subtribes, the Marwat, Daulat Khel, Mian Khel and Tator. About the beginning of the 17th century the Daulat Khel quaralled with the Marwats and the Mian Khel and drove them out of Tank. The Marwats moved northwards across the Salt Range and drove the Niazi eastwards across the Kurram and Salt Range into Isa Khel and the banks of the Indus, where they found a mixed Awan and Jat population whom they expelled.

and awans not even make up ten percent of that district. so just because there are few awans doesnt mean that al naizis, and khattaks become aprt of punjab. and these awans have always been the lowest in the food chain. working for niazi's etc —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.152.31.4 (talk) 08:04, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Map image breaches policy & has been removed edit

There is currently a deletion discussion taking place at Commons regarding File:Map on Dialects Of Punjabi Language.jpg, which can be viewed here. Regardless of whether the map image is deleted at Commons, I think that it needs to be removed from all English Wikipedia articles because it breaches our synthesis policy. The image creator has provided a long list of sources in the deletion discussion and it is evident from those that none contain all of the information shown in the image, nor is it a simple task to work out which bits of information were gleaned from which source(s). We simply do not permit people to aggregate information in this way. It should also be noted that the chances are very high that the various sources did not even adopt the same methodology in compiling their data, which makes the analysis of the creator even more suspect.

I have removed the image because the Commons discussion may end up as something other than "delete" and yet the thing is still invalid on English Wikipedia. - Sitush (talk) 21:22, 19 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Map was deleted on two reasons. 1... Commons deletion discussion but now Deletion request by Sitush has been rejected on Wikimedia Commons. 2... Sitush has a self perception that map is synthesis, which is actually not because it is based on latest research of 2007 in the Publication named 'The Indo-Aryan Languages' by George Cardona and Dhanesh Jain. So I am re inserting it. Unless Sitush prove it again as a synthesis and refer me the areas of map being synthesized also mentioning the different publications along with page numbers where from in his kind opinion I have synthesized the map.Maria0333 (talk) 08:22, 22 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
