Name edit

Just for the record- since I checked based on the media sources which stated her name, as given here, is as on her birth certificate, which in my experience is by no means always an accurate statement- her birth is recorded both as "Mia Gypsy Goth" and "Mia Gypsy Mello da Costa Goth", with mother's maiden name given as "Mello da Costa". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.145.186.8 (talk) 00:49, 20 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Birthdate edit

Previous versions of Goth's entry here have listed her birthdate as November 30, 1993, but if you look at the cited source, it simply states that she was born in the fourth birth quarter of the year, meaning her birthdate could be any date between October 1 and December 31, 1993. I am not sure where the November 30 claim originates; it seems to have been introduced to the page in this edit back in December 2017, but again, there is no basis for it.

The November 30, 1993 birthdate later made it to her profile on IMDb and was on there for some time. However, it has recently been changed on IMDb to October 25, 1993; this change was made in tandem with an updated headshot, leading me to suspect it was done by her agent. With that in mind, I would venture to guess that October 25 is likely her actual birthdate. However, because IMDb does not qualify as a reliable source, we will have to wait for further confirmation. In the meantime, I have changed her birth information so that it only displays her birth year of 1993, as we have no reliable source on the actual date. --Drown Soda (talk) 06:07, 15 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I had to make another edit restoring her birth information to year only. An unregistered user reinstated the November 30 birthdate with a source that was not reliable. As I have noted above, the cited birth record only states that she was born in the fourth birth quarter of 1993, meaning her DOB could be any date between October 1 and December 31, 1993. I have added an explanatory footnote regarding this for the sake of clarity for readers. I implore editors not to change this until we have a reliable source per Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. --Drown Soda (talk) 17:40, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Per WP:DOB, WP:CITINGIMDB and WP:BLPPRIMARY, I'm not sure that either IMDb or the birth record should be used. Personally, I would leave it out altogether. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:10, 29 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Full name edit

I don't know if it counts as a source, but I leave it here as a note. According to her grandmother, Mia "changed" the "Gypsy" in her name (did she mean "Mia Gypsy" for "Mia Goth"?). The first source says she "changed", but the second source reposts the information from the first saying she "removed" the "Gypsy" from her full name. Surname edit

For now, I've removed the Portuguese name hatnote. The subject is British and she wasn't born in Brazil. Unlike in Latin America, the custom of having both the father and mother's family names is not mandatory/encouraged. And having a compound surname would usually be connected with a hyphen in English-speaking countries.

Is there any proof that "Mello da Silva Goth" is her full, legal surname? Otherwise, it seems to be a case of the maternal family name being an additional middle name, which isn't uncommon in Anglophone countries. U.S president Franklin D. Roosevelt had his mother's maiden name ("Delano") as his middle name. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 09:34, 15 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
