Notable alumni

The "Notable alumni" section is for alumni who are notable. To qualify for this section, a person must be 1) an alumnus of Methacton and 2) notable. Ignoring the "notable" part and simply adding your favorite alumnus, makes as much sense as adding Ted Knight, Pratibha Patil and such. Location

Yes, "Eagleville" is used in their mailing address. However, Eagleville is a Census-designated place (i.e., it is not incorporated). As such, the boundries of Eagleville are set by the Census Bureau. Their boundries do NOT include the location of the high school.[1]

So what gives? Simple, a mailing address is not a physical location. If Methacton used Fairview Village (and 19409) in their mailing address, their mail would go to a P.O. Box, which would be a PITA. To have their mail delivered, they have to use 19403 and, per the post office, they can call their location Audubon, East Norriton or Jeffersonville (which it clearly is not); Norristown (which they'd rather die than use) or Eagleville.[2]

Eagleville Elementary, we can agree, is in Eagleville.[3]

How about Woodland? I'd say Trooper. Their mailing address also says "Eagleville".[4]

Arcola? uses Eagleville.[5] Heck, Think Audubon is in Audubon? Well their mailing address is Eagleville.[6] Damn, Eagleville is getting really big, fully encircling Trooper.

Worcester, escaping all logic, uses Lansdale.[7]

(FWIW, Arrowhead uses "Collegeville".)

Methacton, in terms of physical location, helpfully says they are in Methacton an "area extending from Eagleville in Lower Providence Township through the Fairview Village area of Worcester Township".[8] Gee, thanks.

Mapquest and such will probably default the the largest name in the zip code. That would make all of 19403 "Norristown".

So how do we know where they "really" are? Let's go to independent reliable sources:

• The Mercury, September 28, 2008. "Methacton blanks OJR, remains unbeaten" Dateline is "FAIRVIEW VILLAGE".
• The Phoenix, October 27, 2008. "Methacton rolls over St. Pius X". Dateline is "FAIRVIEW VILLAGE".
• Daily Local News, September 14, 2008. "Methacton edges tough North Penn". Dateline is "FAIRVIEW VILLAGE".

(The Times Herald, always marching alone, puts MHS in "WORCESTER"[9] or "LOWER PROVIDENCE"[10], depending on how the mood strikes them that day.)

Actually, I was a bit hard on Methacton's website. They mention "Eagleville in Lower Providence Township through the Fairview Village area of Worcester Township". MHS is in Worcester Township.[11] - SummerPhD (talk) 16:56, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Academic decathlon

The academic decathlon was added to this page in February, 2012.[12] Now we have claims that it was "founded" by the current vice president and president "in 2013-2014 school year"[sic]. Apparently the editor in 2012 was psychic.

In any case, the date of the "founding" is unsourced (a current listing of members is useless in this regard). The names of the founders is purely trivial. - SummerPhD (talk) 17:04, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

No longer a Junior and a Senior High School?

I recall that there was a Methacton Junior High School and a Methacton Senior High School, sharing the same campus, and with the buildings connected (Methacton Junior/Senior High School). I find no evidence that this is still the case? If it changed, perhaps it is worth mentioning the change, along with when it occurred, either in this article or the one about Methacton School District. 209.131.230.220 (talk) 04:21, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Looking at the district website and Google Maps, they are indeed separate buildings (Methacton High School and Arcola Intermediate School). However, this page does not state when this change occurred, and I am not sure if there are any other sources that can provide that information. I briefly lived nearby in the mid 1980s. IIRC, Arcola used to be grades 6 and 7. The current high school complex is actually the former high school and junior high (connected by the gyms, cafeteria and such). If you look at a satellite view, you'll see two separate entrances. The one closest to Germantown Pike is the high school entrance. The plan in the late 1980s or so was to convert the junior high to mostly administrative use (from grades 8 & 9), the high school to grades 9 - 12 (from 10 - 12) and Arcola to 6 - 8 (from 6 & 7). School colors: Should green be a specific shade?

If I recall correctly, the school colors were Dartmouth Green and White. Is this still the case? I'm unable to find a source saying which shade of green they use. SlowJog (talk) 21:28, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
