Move to Metavariable?
editGreat, At last. Should we move this to Metavariable? I don't see a case for having another article on metavariables. (I think kf4yfd disappeared halfway through sorting this out, hope he is still alive!) ComputScientist (talk) 08:08, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- I think we should. Morton Shumway—talk 01:53, 20 November 2010 (UTC).

The result of the move request was: page moved. Vegaswikian (talk) 22:39, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Metavariable (logic) → Metavariable — The word "metavariable" doesn't seem to be used for anything other than the usage described on this page. There are no other pages called "metavariable". ComputScientist (talk) 16:05, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

- Support. There's no other article titled "metavariable", and that already redirects here. Jafeluv (talk) 09:07, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Merge
editThere's no difference that I can discern between "Metasyntactic variable" and metavariable. The former article is quite poorly written; it starts by claiming it's a about a concept in computer science and then gives some examples from natural languages, so all it might take to effect this merge is a redirect. Tijfo098 (talk) 02:07, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, having worked on that article for a bit, I realized that the term is reified in the hacking culture so that the words "foo" and "bar" are referred to as "metasyntactic variables" even when they are not used as metavariables, so merging that here would not be a good idea. Tijfo098 (talk) 07:32, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- I've added a summary though. Tijfo098 (talk) 07:16, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
