disambig usage edit

I have expanded a number of definitions on this disambiguation page in an attempt to make them more informative and interesting. Not sure about this, but perhaps disambiguation pages should generally read more like a list of overviews of each subject, dependent of course on how significant/how much detail is available on the subject. Hmmm, perhaps I should search on a consensus for this:D --ChrisJMoor 03:26, 18 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Actually there is already a consensus - check Wikipedia:Disambiguation and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). Basically there should be as few links as possible and only enough explaination to help the user find the link they are looking for. Disambiguation pages are basically meant just for navigation to other pages. I hope that helps. Megapixie 07:50, 18 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that, megapixie. I have reverted my changes. In retrospect I think the consensus is a wise decision as a longer disambiguation page uses more bandwidth and storage space for information that is in most cases redundant anyway. I suspect these arguements are detailed on your link, havent read it yet. Perhaps my idea would be better applied to the wikidictionary - I might investigate this.--ChrisJMoor 02:35, 19 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
(okay, I haven't reverted, but I have edited the content some)
The description of metal (chemistry) omits the fact that metal, in its elemental form, is a good conductor. Reference kept - I think that this fact is most helpful to searchers. I have cut down the metal (astronomy) description to the bare fact that a 'metal' is any element above 2. I have linked the metal (music) reference to heavy metal as their is a debate as to whether the pages should be merged.--ChrisJMoor 02:55, 19 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

wiki structure question; metals, plural edit

metals redirects to metal. But "metals" is an old British term for the rails of a railroad. Do I change the redirect to go here (the metal disambig page)? Create a new disambig page for metals which points here and to the railway def? -- Akb4 00:25, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

ok, I changed the metals redirect to point here. But then I read the road metal entry, and I am now not sure if the railway sense of "metals" might mean the roadbed and not specifically the rails. The cite for the railway usage is the Sherlock Holmes story The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans. -- Akb4 23:56, 12 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

New item edit

I believe that instead of only the genre heavy metal, the (for lack of a better word) “types” of music which include (only these; the word include does not mean only a select few) Hardcore and Extreme. WikiJanitorPerson (talk) 17:46, 2 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
