I notice that this article has been a stub before and has had the stub template removed. I put it back, in large part because the article could use considerable clarification for a non-scientific audience. Chick Bowen 02:54, September 10, 2005 (UTC)

This article contradicts itself. How can mesosomes "play a role in cell wall formation during cell division" if they don't "exist in reality." Really, that just doesn't make sense how they can both be true --Fastman99 01:34, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It may not contradict itself, as both are theories and hypotheses. There is no evidence to disprove or prove anyone of thesm to be right.Chiu frederick 14:37, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

How recent is 'recent'? edit

Article refers to 'recent' studies and citations are from 1976 and 1981, I wonder whether it is really 'recent' or not

Webster's dictionary says opposite of what this article says. Here's Webster: an organelle of bacteria that appears in electron micrographs as an invagination of the plasma membrane and is a site of localization of respiratory enzymes

Well Webster's is wrong. Read the literature cited in this article. This review is a good source. Tim Vickers (talk) 19:08, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
This may be the case but Webster is not the only one stating so. It may be that an error is propagated, and this is why the Wikipedia article needs to be of very high quality. 84.112.136.52 (talk) 21:21, 6 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

morphology of defensin treated staph edit

this article Shimoda M, et al. Morphology of defensin-treated Staphylococcus aureus. Infect Immun. 1995 Aug;63(8):2886-91.

seems to suggest that mesosomes are not staining artifacts but rather reflect structural changes in the membrane 140.247.240.174 21:38, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mesosomes still mentioned in books edit

I am currently reading "Molecular Cell Biology" by Lodish from 2016 (the book). On Page 10 they have "Some bacteria also have an invagination of the cell membrane, called a mesosome, which is associated with synthesis of DNA and secretion of proteins" so the error is still there. Not sure whether anyone wants to mention this in the main article or not, but I found it interesting that an otherwise good book still mentions the mesosome situation. May be interesting to see to which they refer to, if such an error is not corrected. 2A02:8388:1604:F600:A023:1A46:73DC:AD2 (talk) 15:28, 9 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
