Merriam's elk is not really an extinct subspecies, but rather an invalid subspecies all along, that seems to have picked up guesses and speculation as facts as time went by. See [1] Chiefly among these facts is the supposed extinction in the 1900s, which was only the time when the original description of the subspecies was made.Menah the Great (talk) 23:59, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
