Rationale for article

I've created this page as (glacial) meltwater channel is a frequently encountered term but did not appear on Wikipedia though a range of linked and overlapping terms are already represented on WP to various degrees. This stub serves perhaps primarily to spin people off to one or other of these pages where more detail may be found (or can be added to subsequently). Word of caution

By lumping a wide range of diverse features under the heading 'Meltwater channel' the origin of all these features is assigned to a hypothetical icesheet that may, or may not have been responsible for their existence. Granted 'everybody knows' that thick ice, —Agassiz' 'mer de glace', is assumed to have been extensive a mere 25,000 years ago. Then this global spectre suddenly melted, providing a facile explanation for all sorts of otherwise baffling features. Possibilities that many of these channels could date from earlier unconformities, earthquakes or crustal movements seem to be neglected universally as viable alternative hypotheses. Without careful consideration and discussion of all other reasonable explanations, calling a topographic depression 'a meltwater channel' is simply a 'get out of jail free' card to play.
