According to Lüpke: Die Zeugen in den Urkunden Heinrichs VI. Hausarbeit für die Staatsprüfung am Institut für österreichische Geschichtsforschung, Wien 1962 (cited here), on the document of 1 March 1191 there is a clear gap between the signature magister Melior cardinalis" and "Massanus episcopus". - That was already my suspicion. As you know, documents often present only the initial of the person. But the publication in MGH carried authority.
