It would be interesting to have more technical details on the use of compressed air as a motive power. Both in the Mekarski system and in some Diesel-pneumatic locomotives, steam was mixed with the compressed air. I assume the theory was that, if the proportions of steam and compressed air were correct, the steam would condense in the cylinders and give up its latent heat to maintain the temperature of the air.
