Individual articles for movie incarnations of Transformers
editOver $700 million for each of the two movies... does that tell you something? The live-action movies now have their own expansive continuity with comics, sequels, novels, etc. and I think that the movie incarnations of the Transformers characters should be moved off this page and onto their own articles, such as Optimus Prime (films) and Megatron (films) I made a split proposal; I know that it's normally used for articles that are too large, but due to the expansiveness and popularity of the Transformers movie universe, I believe that the film's characters should have their own article, especially since there are arguably more "pointless" articles on movie characters such as Mikaela Banes.----Eh! Steve (talk) 13:05, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- The amount of money a film generates doesn't along justify a new article, but the size of the article might justify splitting off the largest character. I'm wary of the name though. Any alternate names? We until now no Michael Bay film characters have sported an article title that mentioned the film series. Mathewignash (talk) 14:09, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Partners
editThe partners for 2007 movie Megatron of Barricade, Soundwave and Starscream are correct. We traditionally list partners as allied character that are packed together with the toy in the same box/card. One Target store exclusive Legends set includes Megatron, Barricade and Starscream. A Toys R Us exclusive Voyager set on the other hand includes Megatron and Soundwave. So these three robots are his packed-in partners. Mathewignash (talk) 20:33, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- The article is about a character, not a toy. Megatron as a character has no partners. The decision to use the "partners" field in the infobox to reflect a toy packaging decision is an arbitrary and meaningless one. If anything, the toys he has appeared packaged with, can be listed in the sections corresponding to his toys. --uKER (talk) 07:08, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- Given no opposition I removed the information again. As I said before, the tag in the infobox is obviously meant to inform about the character's partners and in fact he has none. Also, if we were to really get things right, the same thing should be done in other characters' articles. --uKER (talk) 06:26, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- The parameters of the Infobox were defined by the Transformers wikiproject, and we had a long talk about what defines partners (the arguement was for G1 Soundwave's cassettes at the time), and we decided that allied characters who were packaged together with a character were official "partners". So if a box set has Megatron and the Fallen, or Megatron and Barricade, then they are partners.Mathewignash (talk) 13:47, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- I have a hard time believing such a poor decision was really made. I mean, the infobox is probably defined by Wikiproject Transformers. If there was to be an infobox tag to reflect what characters are packaged with others, there could be a tag called "Packaged with" or whatever. Can you point me to the discussion in which such thing was agreed on? --uKER (talk) 19:28, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- At the time the arguement was about listing all the cassettes as Soundwave's partners, or just the one he used in the cartoon. We settled on listing all the ones that were packaged with him as his official partners, and listing in the bios any ones he worked with. This then naturally extended out to other Transformers articles, where we listed partners as any any who was packaged together with the character. Anyways just making a blanket statement that Megatron has no partners is a little presumptious. This film did portray him as a servant of a higher power, and working with others. Also, no reason to treat this Transformer article as different from other Transformers articles standards, just because he's a big time movie star now, and if your alternative is to leave the section blank, I don't see how that informs people of any real information. Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Transformers/Archive_2#Partners Mathewignash (talk) 20:00, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- Um. If you fill a form and it reads "place of birth", you don't fill in the place you like the most for going on vacation, do you? Also, if you did, would you consider it informative? The "partners" field should be filled for cases like the twins, the Arcee sisters, the Constructicons and the such. If you want I'll help hoy edit the infobox template to include a field in which to put the other toys. --uKER (talk) 20:18, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- You only give the twins each other as partners if they are packaged together, which they are. The box does say "partners" not siblings. You can read about someone's twin in the bio text. If you want to propose a change to the infobox format, please do so through normal channels. I still don't see how listing NOTHING in the partners box is helpful at all to the Megatron article. It works for all the other Megatrons. Animated Megatron, in one version was packaged with Starscream, so they are partners. Shattered Glass Megatron was packaged with Divebomb and Rumbler at Botcon. They are his partners. Mathewignash (talk) 20:30, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Main antagonist
editI just wanted to point out that being "disabled" for 3/4 of the movie didn't keep The Fallen from being the main antagonist in RotF. --uKER (talk) 00:56, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- How about the fact that he did little when freed but get beat up? Does that keep him from being "main"? Does simply being the leader make you "main", despite that someone else does all the work and appears through all the film? For the 2007 film it seemed like a group effort of the Decepticons, no main villian. For this film Megatron seemed main, with the Fallen being his mentor/benefactor/leader. Was the main antagonist of Star Wars: A New Hope Govenor Tarkin (who sat back and commanded the Death Star), or Darth Vader, who did the legwork? Mathewignash (talk) 01:03, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Um, two main reasons for The Fallen being the main antagonist in RotF: 1. He's in the movie's title and posters. 2. He is the one that fights the "good guy" in the movie's climax. Though I do agree that the movie's poor writing didn't give this meant-to-be main antagonist the protagonism he should have had. --uKER (talk) 02:18, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- I do see your point, but you have to admit, there are arguements for Megatron and the Fallen. It doesn't help that none of the "good guys" seem to know who The Fallen even is. Also, the title seems to pack a double meaning, with Megatron seemingly having fallen and revenging himself in the film. (Besides, even if episode 4 of SW was called "Tarkin Attacks", I wouldn't give him main antagonist status!) As for fighting the good guys at the end of the film, I might counter that with Megatron defeating the main good guy in the middle of the film. Mathewignash (talk) 03:10, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well, yeah, but the fact that the movie ends when The Fallen is defeated must mean something, doesn't it? --uKER (talk) 12:11, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- The movie ends when Megatron leaves you mean? Again going with the Star Wars ep 4 reference, Luke kills Tarkin in the final fight scene, but Vader gets away. Mathewignash (talk) 12:23, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I kinda hate Star Wars and didn't watch that movie you mention, but if he is in the title and the movie ends when he gets killed, then by my book he is the main antagonist IN THAT MOVIE. --uKER (talk) 13:14, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Separate page
editHow do I make the section on Bayformer Megatron good enough for its own page?--Eh! Steve (talk) 05:28, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
You really cant if we seperate it and make it about films it will be an incredibly short page because if its about the film the comics and titans magazine stuff wouldnt belong there because it has nothing to do with paramount or bayfilms maybe when the trilogy ends in 2 years it will be worthy but not now The Movie Master 1 (talk) 22:48, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
The comics and toys are liscensed by paramount. I think we want to move all the info on Megatron from the Paramount movies, liscensed comics, toys etc onto it's own page - much like Megatron (Beast Era). Mathewignash (talk) 23:45, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Dark of the Moon Megatron
editSomeone wrote this on the Dark of the Moon section on Megatron's page.
"In the film Megatron allies himself with Sentinel Prime in an attempt to revitalize Cybertron, but in the end betrays Sentinel when he realized he doesn't want to serve under Sentinel's rule".
Three reasons this is wrong.
1) The Movie has not be released.
2) No Offical Source says this.
3) Megatron is the Decepticon Leader so why would this happen?
The book came out last week.Mathewignash (talk) 16:51, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
So does Megatron still stay as a Decepticon? Dr Eggman12 (talk) 21:59 26 May 2011 (UTC)
