Turing test

edit

Why is the Turing test described in full here, instead of merely being referenced? --Randal L. Schwartz 06:25, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind, it looks like a simple link to the real info about Turing test and Loebner Prize will suffice. Edit complete. --Randal L. Schwartz 06:28, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Notability

edit

Notability is questioned because there is no reference to reliable sources. Please found some before removing the template. --M4gnum0n (talk) 14:51, 20 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Keep. If "Internet culture" has any notability, certainly MegaHAL does. Unless there is a move to delete all articles on Internet culture and phenomenon, MegaHAL should stay, at least as an example for the dwindling number of us who know that there was such a thing as the Internet already before 2000. -- Infrogmation (talk) 01:11, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Paragraph about HeX

edit

I removed the following paragraph from the article, since it isn't about MegaHAL but about another program by the same guy:

In 1996, Jason Hutchens entered the Loebner Prize Contest with HeX, a chatterbot based on ELIZA. HeX won the competition that year and took the $2000 prize for having the highest overall score. In 1998, Hutchens again entered the Loebner Prize Contest with his new program, MegaHAL.

It was restored, with the following comment: "It gives background to why and in what context the program was produced." In my opinion, this is not the case. The only link between the two programs that this paragraph establishes, is that their author let them compete in the same competition. Is MegaHAL based on HeX in any way? Did HeX influence design decisions in MegaHAL? The paragraph doesn't say. It doesn't even mention the result of the competition (if it won, this could establish notability). So either the paragraph is extended and more information is given, or it should be removed, because it is mostly unrelated to the actual topic of this article. – Adrianwn (talk) 05:32, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
