The ridge goes the length of the Mediterranean and is generally to the south of the subduction zones. Here it is being confused with the forearcs over the trenches. The "scrape-off" theory is only one, but in any case it cannot be used to account for forearcs, as it is actually located south of them. The one example given, Cyprus is not right. There is a Cyprus Arc and a Cyprus Trench. Well, this is only a fill-in stub. A lot of these geology stubs need a good going-over, as they say some pretty wild things. The editor's opinion thrown in with some misunderstood geologic article doesn't do it. I am working in this area, but it might be some time before I get to this one. You are entitled to your opinion, but the vast bulk of published papers in the last twenty years support the ridge as being an accretionary complex that lies above the Hellenic subduction zone. Having said that, this article needs both expansion and clarification and improved sourcing, which I hope to get around to at some point. Mikenorton (talk) 10:31, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
