external links edit

The external link section was getting a bit excessive. I have removed these per WP:ELOFFICIAL:

please only reinstate with justification. Cheers, --Amaher (talk) 22:22, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

industry structure edit

Now that we have some more people interested in editing this article, rather than adding the above section, I wonder if it would be a good idea to create a new page for the private health insurance industry in Australia? What do you think? I'll help you build it.--Amaher (talk) 23:10, 2 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The subject is covered to some extent already, but split between this article, Health care in Australia#Insurance and Health insurance#Australia. I agree that a new article is required, merging these pieces of text and adding to them. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 23:37, 2 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Services edit

Under SERVICES there is a statement about a change to one of the products offered:

In March 2010 Medibank Private withdrew benefits for restricted services on its basic First Choice Savers hospital policy. As of June 2010, benefits for procedures such as heart operations and assisted reproductive services will be available only to customers on more comprehensive policies costing as much as 50% more.[7] Medibank stated that the changes were intended to improve customer understanding of their products. They further stated the impact on customers will be small, due to the low rate of use of the restricted services.[8]

This does not seem to be of material importance to the long term operations of the organisation. It may have been a 'news story' at the time however in historical context it is merely a reclassification of product names. I think this text should be removed to make the article more relevant and readable.

I am a long-term customer of medibank private and sometimes think that they phase out old services like ours. But it hasn't been that relevant to put in time for research. I did not fully understand that paragraph.
One interesting item would be 'What happened to the reserves?" In the years when medibank was state-owned there were reserves, built-up and probably set aside from the start. The privatisation of medibank was held up at some stage by the question "who gets the reserves?" Some people argued they were due to government because they had provided the start capital. Others said that medibank customers built them up with their premiums so they should stay with medibank. I do not recall hearing the suggestion they should be split. So who got them? 2001:8003:A070:7F00:6480:2742:5071:2CA9 (talk) 01:42, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Industry structure and main competitors edit

This section does not list any competitors. Should it?

AU government outsources rape hotline edit

I just found http://www.rape-dvservices.org.au/1800RESPECT (via Asher Wolf). Maybe somebody who knows AU well should add a section to the article. --Ralf Muschall (talk) 10:25, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
