I am thinking of merging this article and Meconium. Any objections? Any ideas which should be merged into which? Joyous 23:33, Jan 15, 2005 (UTC)

I am in favor of merging a bodily substance with an ailment associated with that substance being present where it should not be in the body if and only if such mergers have a clear & strong WP: policy. For example, if acid reflux is merged with stomach acid and Crohn's disease is merged with feces due to clear & strong WP: policy, then yes. But in all other circumstances (i.e., in the absence of a clear & strong WP: policy), I am adamantly against it, because the bodily substance and an ailment associated with that substance being somewhere in the body that it was not intended are 2 fundamentally different entities. —optikos (talk) 04:43, 2 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

It would have helped if you had actually merged the articles instead of deleting one of them.

I didn't delete anything. I did change Meconium into a redirect to this article in preparation for expanding it. You can easily access the old article and its history, if you think there's any information that needs to be added to this one. Joyous 19:50, Jan 23, 2005 (UTC)

I don't see how the syndrome and the substance are the same thing - it's like saying the topic on Cancer and the topic on Brain should be merged, because one can be connected with the other. No game. 172.152.186.241

It's not at all like merging Brain and Cancer because "one can be connected with the other," and nothing in this article suggests that the substance and the syndrome are the same thing. There is much to say about brains and cancer separately. There's not much to say about meconium other than that "it's an infant's first stool, and it's made up of this stuff and that stuff." One or two lines and you're done. All the resources I've looked at described meconium as a lead-in to a more extended discussion of the syndrome. Joyous 19:40, Feb 6, 2005 (UTC)

Note - are there any other illnesses that can result from Meconium? If so, I say move this page to Meconium and build off of that.

Meconium aspiration syndrome isn't a single disease, like chickenpox or cholera. It's a syndrome, a collection of symptoms that may vary from child to child. As far as I know, there's not much else that can happen with meconium to cause illness other than being inhaled by the infant while in the womb or during delivery. Any of the complications that stem from that inhalation fall under the heading of MAS. If the bulk of the article is going to be about the syndrome that occurs when it's inhaled, why not have the article be under the name of that syndrome? Joyous 19:40, Feb 6, 2005 (UTC)

Joy: I don't know your medical qualifications, but I have heard that MAS can lead to neurological or other developmental problems, including those on the autistic spectrum. Is there sufficient medical opinion to include that information?Cbflagginc (talk) 16:23, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

This page needs to be enlarged. Isn't this the page describing the condition which led to the birth of wikipedia?! Coz as reported in the press, Jimbo Wales's child suffered from meconium aspiration and it was an innovative / experimental treatment by the pediatrician which saved her life. Note to self (and others working on this article): Please use the following three articles from pubmed regarding Surfaxin- 16770072, 15833063, 12042546 Basket of Puppies 00:33, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} There seems to be a problem with how the cite pmid template is working. Please see the red links at: Meconium_aspiration_syndrome#References. Thank you! Basket of Puppies 01:01, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

It seems User:Citation bot didn't create the necessary page for some reason, so I did. It should be okay now. Svick (talk) 02:33, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Examples

Would you guys mind if I added some examples of fetal distress? Also, a few more statistics on how common MAS is?A.ketterling (talk) 16:19, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

I am a newbie at this and sincerely apologize if I messed anything up. We are contributing to Wiki for a school assignment and I am struggling with the citation aspect, if anyone could help me and notice what I am doing wrong I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.A.ketterling (talk) 17:43, 4 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
