Mealybugs should be deleted or merged into this entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pickup Stix (talkcontribs)

Done. I think a picture would be great, though, if anybody has one. --Storkk 15:44, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Biting/stinging edit

I've been stung by mealybugs, but I've read contradicting things on the internet; some sites say they do sting, and some say they do not. I'm surprised there was no mention of this in the wiki page. I'm sure they bite/sting humans, but I have no citation or proof. It would be great if someone could clarify this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimboalogo (talkcontribs) 23:39, 8 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Actually they don't bite intentionally. They have a straw like mouthpart called a proboscis, and they use it to pierce plats that they can drink the sap under the outer layer of the plant. I have never been bitten by one, and they are quite common in my area. It may have thought that the surface it was sitting on (i.e. your skin) was a plant Uploader1234567890 (talk) 08:54, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Control Section edit

Great, concise article, but the section on Control seems a little "how-to" for WP. I like the section on specific pesticides, but the description of home remedies for residential flowers is a bit out of place. I suggest removing that portion and possibly combining the popular pesticide treatment with the main page. Thoughts? The Cap'n (talk) 01:35, 22 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Gender in Image edit

Can anybody tell is this mealybug is male or female? --D-Kuru (talk) 15:20, 10 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Female. I have seen both male and female mealybugs, and they look worlds apart. Because your one is a female, you can use it for comparison with a male over here, which look like gnats
