What is the origin of the word 'meaconing' ...?

The OED states it to be a contraction of the phrase "masking beacon", coined by the RAF in WW2; and the earliest public usage of the term in material written by Churchill in 1949 ( though the page states itself to be "DRAFT ENTRY June 2010" so may be subject to change... )

Merge proposal edit

I suggest this article be merged into spoofing attack as this has become a much more common term for what is essentially the same thing. siafu (talk) 20:11, 19 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
