My father and I went on a road trip in October 2010 to the "October Sky" Celebration in honor of the movie by the same name based upon the book Rocket Boys. I saw that McNutt WV was listed on Google maps and how cool would it be for my father and I to get our picture taken in front of the town sign to celebrate our heritage! However, we could not locate a sign and no on seemed to know what we were talking about. Finally we were directed to an older lady historian at the local county courthouse? to find out any information. She began laughing as she stated she had not heard that name in years. According to her, it was originally the site of the local poor house that got plowed under when Highway 79 was paved. She directed us to small culvert underpass Fisher Drive, as the original site. So I have now had my father and several of my children pose by the culvert on the west side as a humorous memento to not forget our humble origins. Whether or not this can be verified I honestly do not know, but it is a true account of my dad and I's journey that fall. 208.104.58.51 (talk) 15:32, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
