Talk:McMenamins/Archive 1

Do we really need a list of every McMenamin location? If so, how is this different from listing every McDonald's, Burger King, & other restaurant with multiple locations?

If no one responds to this question within a week, I'll remove the list of locations. -- llywrch 21:46, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I'd love to see.. edit

A list of their beers with opinions on each and a better description of the listed "interesting" locations.

Guess this isn't the place for reviews, but I kinda whish it was.

They have a boatload of other beers, too. Maybe later when my "real life" workload dies down a bit I'll add them, if somebody doesn't beat me to it. – ClockworkSoul 16:18, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Added to project edit

This page is now part of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Beer. Information and logo for beerbox was taken from their website. --Sean Kelly 08:08, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for adding this brewbox: I've never heard of them before, and they look very interesting! I couldn't find this on their web site: do you know if they distribute to the East Coast of the USA, specifically Long Island? – ClockworkSoul 16:18, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
They're really a brewpub, so they don't distribute their beer in anything but keg form. Only a few of the Portland microbreweries actually bottle their beer. You can find in other restaurants around Portland, but I haven't seen them outside of the northwest. --Sean κ. 16:40, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
That's a shame. We have a shortage of brewpubs out here on the Island, but one of the better ones is Blue Point Brewing Company; fortunately they do bottle, so I guess they're classified more as a craft brewery. I'm enjoying a bottle of their "Hopical Illusion" right now with my lunch. Mmm... IPA. – ClockworkSoul 16:51, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Criticisms edit

The final bit of this article mentions a point or two of criticism that some direct towards McMenamins. I think it might be appropriate to add another that some hold as a legitimate complaint, or at least point of contention, for this brewery chain: while I have not looked into this recently, I am quite certian the this chain uses a model whereby each "brewery" brews a small number of beers for their own and other bars' usage.

In the case of the Six Arms outlet in Seattle, Washington, I believe it is only one beer. I not infrequently hear complaints from people who perceive this as a bit of a "trick" to be able to call each of the bars a brewery, despite the fact that a very minor amount of beer is brewed at the different locations. That is, some believe that McMenamins is trying to tap into the mincrobrew/brewpub market ilegitimately, by doing a token amount of brewing at some locations, and shipping off that beer to other pubs in the chain.Dxco 00:58, 3 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I have never known McMenamins to disguise the source of their beer. All of the Seattle area pubs make beer. It would be difficult to say that McMenamins is "trying to tap into the microbrew/brewpub market ilegitimately" as they helped pass the Oregon brewpub law and opened the first brewpub in the state. Not every McMenamins is a brewpub, but the company very clearly states which sites have breweries and which do not.

Old St. Francis School edit

is a new Pud and hotel in bend. It was a catholic school with art that has to do with the history of the building. It has a soaking pool with a beautiful Mosaic and fountain in the center. Smileyface 12 91

Staff artists edit

McMenamins also is unique in having a roster of staff artists. The work of Lyle Hehn is especially prominent across the walls of many of their locations and a lot of their printed material. --IanOsgood 01:12, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pacific Crest Construction edit

Pacific Crest Construction inc has done almost all of the McMenanins Pubs and brewerys. I think this should be in the artical. Smileyface 12 91 06:44, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
