Cast on infobox edit

This is the official, summed up version of the cast (reminder that all of the main cast as listed in the end credits is in the "cast" section) by Fox:

http://www.foxmovies.com/movies/maze-runner-the-scorch-trials

My question is: why arbitrarily leave out Barry Pepper, Lili Taylor and Patricia Clarkson? Especially the latter, since she gets special end billing. There is no reason provided for that.

I read the page provided but it did not solve any doubts. As it's stated in the infobox, O'Brien and Scodelario get contractual first billing, then the rest are listed alphabetically, and Patricia Clarkson gets special end billing. You can see that Dexter Darden, Nathalie Emmanuel, Alexander Flores, Jacob Lofland, Rosa Salazar and Alan Tudyk are not included in the link provided above, so this can hardly be qualified as cluttering.

I agree it looks like a big cast, but that's because it is. There literally are fifteen people starring, yes, starring, in the main cast (which is probably why Fox resorted to alphabetical listing in the first place), so the infobox is not cluttered by listing the people Fox chose to prioritize. See, for example, Katherine McNamara, who was previously listed among the cast but whose name I deleted, as she does not appear at the end credits of the film with the rest of the stars. There is a difference between the main cast and the rest of the cast, and I respected it. If it looks like there's too many cast members, it's because there are.

So, my proposal is: the cast on the infobox should read: Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen, Ki Hong Lee, Barry Pepper, Lili Taylor, Patricia Clarkson. Those are the stars Fox prioritized in the official press releases, as you can see on the source. If anyone considers this list should still be reduced, there should be a discussion about it, and not arbitrarily choosing on your own without any reason.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Bice24 (talkcontribs) 14:52, 10 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

There was no comment in the wiki source saying the cast list section had been ordered according to the end credits.
When the film ends, various names of actors are shown with an effect as if sand is blowing over them, and letter fade in and out and move around. That section is as stated and finishes with "and Patricia Clarkson".
After that the credits proper begin in black and white and another cast list with actors and character names are listed as follows:
	Cast
Thomas Dylan O'Brien
Minho Ki Hong Lee
Teresa Kaya Scodelario
Newt Thomas Brodie-Sangster
Frypan Dexter Darden
Winston Alexander Flores
Aris Jacob Lofland
Brenda Rosa Salazar
Jorge Giancarlo Esposito
Ava Paige	Patricia Clarkson
Janson Aidan Gillen
Carl Imashed Hani	Terry Dale Parks
Dr. Crawford	Kathyrn Smith-McGlynn
Mary Lily Taylor
Vince Barry Pepper
Harriet Nathalie Emmanuel
Barkley Matthew T. Metzler
Blondie Alan Tudyk
Ponytail	Jenny Gabrielle
Soldier David House
Thomas' Mother	Lora Cunningham
Young Thomas	Luke Gallegos
David Shawn Prince
...

and the list continues on for several more.

While it is reasonable to limit the Infobox to the top billed cast, it doesn't seem as necessary to limit the main cast section so severely and I think it is worth considering adding other cast members to the list. Also if the cast list is deliberately in a specific order then please add a comment to the wiki source warning people about that, because the order seemed weird and arbitrary. -- 109.78.253.21 (talk) 18:42, 24 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Just to clarify, the argument you were replying to here belonged to the context of the infobox, not the cast section. Different animals.
As for the cast section, I truly don't think it's unreasonable to limit it to the credited cast, especially when it's a decently sized one at that. Characters like "Ponytail" and "Soldier," who don't even have names, are not at all relevant to the plot (for instance, they don't merit any mention in this page's plot summary), so what point is there to their inclusion? Furthermore, it would be arbitrary to include some and not others, because we wouldn't be basing it on any criterion. I don't see any problem with including only those billed in the end credits - most film pages do it (that's also my guess as to why there was no note, since that's a common practice). You apologized in your edit summary so apology accepted but it was extremely obnoxious of you to jump to conclusions and say she wasn't even in the film. The listing order is incoherent, and there's no note in the wikisource to say there is any intention behind the order in the cast list. I couldn't have known! There's no discussion here to suggest there was any real consensus about it either, or even if that particular ordering is a good idea versus such as Cast in order of appearance.
Now that I've got that said I was mostly surprised that even though they were both friends with Aris and had very little to do that Nathalie Emmanuel was listed so highly, and Jenny Gabrielle was not listed at all. If the cast was listed in order of appearance they'd be side by side. It seems strange to list one but not the other. Not that either are particularly important characters, if we were listing the cast in order of appearance then it would be strange not to list Young Thomas and his mother from the flashback sequence. It seems strange that the order deemphasizes Patricia Clarkson for no apparent reason, unlike onscreen where she gets the special "and" credit. Haven't seen the final film yet, maybe some characters will seem more important with hindsight. I still think it is worth considering adding more, there's no shortage of space in Wikipedia. I might revisit the question after I've watched the final film (maybe some characters will seem more significant later) but as it stands I don't think the cast list does the readers any favors. -- 109.78.253.21 (talk) 01:06, 25 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ahhh, I think I know what the issue is now. The character you're thinking of (Sonya) is played by Katherine McNamara, not Jenny Gabrielle. I think it will be far more understandable now why I was arguing Gabrielle should not be included in this section.
As for McNamara herself, you're right it was a bit of an issue until the last movie came out. It was resolved with the release: McNamara is billed among the main cast in the third film, but not in this one, so that's what the respective pages reflect.
If I'm not mistaken, there is a note clarifying the reason for the cast order in the first film's cast section, and that's pretty much the same way the following ones are done. Pretty much, the way the studio did it was, O'Brien obviously gets first billing, Scodelario gets second billing because of contract reasons (director Wes Ball mentioned it in passing in the behind the scenes commentary for this installment, I think), Clarkson as you say is listed last to signify the special "and" credit, and the rest are listed alphabetically. In the first film, for example, they did have a clear separation between characters more relevant to the plot and secondary characters (even if they still follow alphabetical order in their respective groups), but in this one and the last one that separation is lost. No Maze or MAZE running as a matter of facts. edit

With no maze..it's virtually a carbon copy of the Resident Evil movies of the bad corporation and Zombies. Nothing to do with the original maze runner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.158.212.202 (talk) 21:41, 23 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Unless you've got critics or other reliable sources saying it then unfortunately it is offtopic and not relevant to this Wikipedia article. Now that you mention it I suppose there are a few similarities to Resident Evil: Extinction but you can find the monomyth in most stories if you look for it. Reviewers were too busy comparing it to The Hunger Games or Divergent. Indiewire compared the monsters of Scorch Trials to movies such as 28 Days Later and I Am Legend, no mention of Resident evil though. -- 109.78.253.21 (talk) 18:59, 24 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Plot summary reference edit

I've noticed that there are references in the Plot section saying that the Plot summary was copied from the Maze Runner Wiki article page (under my Fandom/Wikia account "Draco9904"). I wrote the initial Plot summary back in 2013 when the film had been released, then copied it onto the film's article page on the Maze Runner Wiki. I'm not sure if I used this particular account or if I wrote it without an account, but I know I wrote the Plot summary. I'm not sure if I need to verify this to you, so I'll just leave it up to you to judge. -- Draco9904 (Draco9904) 10:02, 17 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
