• Citation 1 in the lead isn't necessary, as it has been cited in the background section.
• "The Islamic Republic of Mauritania" –> "Mauritania, officially the Islamic Republic of Mauritania"; also link Mauritania as first body mention.
• "French colony within French West Africa (1904-1960)" –> Long dash needs to be used in brackets: "(1904–1960)"
• citation 4, from the BBC has no publisher parameter, should be |publisher=BBC
• the following citation in Russian also has no Publisher/website parameter. Its also in Russian so it'll need the language parameter; |language=ru
• "No Mauritanian has ever won a medal at the Olympics" –> "As of 2023, no Mauritanian has ever won a medal at the Olympics", also needs a citation, look for a constantly updated medal table.
• Image needs an alt text. See MOS:ALT
