Captain not Volunteer

edit

Maurice O'Neill was a Captain in the IRA, not a volunteer. At that period of time a volunteer was a military rank within the IRA and it was used for members who had no rank, the equivalent of 'Private' in other armed forces. It is only after the formation of the Provisional IRA that the term 'Volunteer' started to be used for officers on memorials etc. 86.28.235.52 (talk) 13:15, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
