I lived in Stow on the Wold late 1960's. I was told by much older residents, that a Steamroller was going through Stow centre and the road collapsed. A tunnel was discovered and several men were sent down to inspect, they were gone for so long, other searchers went down to find them, the tunnel went across to Maugersbey Manor, they found sealed bottles of Mead and when found were quite drunk.
