I see nothing in our sources to suggest he's known in the West as Matthew rather than Matvey. We do sometimes translate names, such as Peter the Great rather than Pyotr the Great, and Leo Tolstoy rather than Lev Tolstoy, but we leave Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Ivan the Terrible, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov et al alone.
