I'm pretty sure that he spells it Mat Ward now, with only one T. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.163.250.192 (talk) 18:31, 23 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

80.187.103.190 (talk) 17:28, 18 September 2011 (UTC) Should we add how hated this guy is or leave that part out?Reply

Point me to a reliable independent source that says he's hated, and we can then discuss its addition. Otherwise, it's just a personal opinion held by you and maybe some other people. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:30, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Controversy edit

Why is this page protected? It's mostly empty. There should really be a mention of how much consternation Ward's books tend to cause among the community. Furthermore, if everything on Wiki needed a "reliable independent source" this place would be empty. Get off your high horse. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.177.81.237 (talk) 03:25, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I really know nothing about this person, I dont care either way. But if there is such a furore in "the community" then I assume a magazine that covers events in that community, would have made some comments - in fact, lots of comments! - about it. Please could you tell us about such coverage? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 04:34, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
There is a huge amount of hate thrown his way, to the point that it *is* significant. But you'd be hard pressed to find a mainstream news source reporting on things like that, which means it doesn't rise to Wikipedia's notability standard. Find a magazine/journal with decent circulation that isn't just a fanzine on the internet, and maybe it'll stick. Until then, as far as Wikipedia is concerned, he's just a random book author/game designer.Pär Larsson (talk) 18:42, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I am not convinced it's even hate, it's more a deeply stupid internet meme were a bunch of gaming nerds have decided to make a particular games designer the scratching post for their frustations. This has happened before with GW designers, and I'm sure it'll happen again. If anything, it's more a meme, especially as all he's done is written some books that some people love and others don't. Wikipedia should not be used to slander or libel a man who's just doing his job as a staff writer. MisterEd (talk) 11:53, 7 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

New Codex: Necrons (2011) edit

Matt Ward is also the author of Codex: Necrons published in 2011. ISBN of 978-1907964183. CygnusFS (talk) 15:24, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry,   Not done because ISBN 978-1907964183 doesn't find anything by that name or author, or indeed anything at all. Also, neither Amazon nor Google Books seem to be aware of the book at all. Is it published yet, or is it possible there's a typo in the ISBN ? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 18:00, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

It was published and released on November 5th. I am currently trying to find another place it is located. It is currently on Amazon but unavailable.

This is it on the Games Workshop website. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat700001a&prodId=prod1380028a — Preceding unsigned comment added by CygnusFS (talkcontribs) 21:20, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ah, weird, Amazon have it listed as a toy not a book. Do you have, or have seen, one of these and it has the ISBN you gave? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 21:35, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I will check it out tonight when I go to a local gaming store to get the correct ISBN if that is not coming up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CygnusFS (talkcontribs) 13:35, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Forum posts about Matt Ward edit

Hi, I recently found a lot of Matt Ward hate here:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/427371.page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/426405.page www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/424988.page www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/357804.page

Well, I could list the whole website and it would basically be my source, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.197.29.34 (talk) 14:33, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well, forum posts are not considered reliable sources for Wikipedia, as per WP:USERGENERATED. As has been said further up this page, if there is a significant controversy in the gaming community about Ward's actions, then cite a reliable source (for example a gaming magazine with proper editorial oversight, not just a fanzine) that discusses that controversy.
Also, I've changed your section title per WP:BLP. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 16:10, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
91.37.194.246 (talk) 15:03, 20 March 2012 (UTC) The main problem is White Dwarf, the official magazine concerned and affiliated with Games Workshop is also the main source for news about GW's games. Since Ward is also a writer of that magazine any protests and concerns thrown in his direction are quietly ignored by it. As long as this remains so the bosses of GW won't care. Other game magazines simply don't write about the writers behind something as much as they care about their opinions to the game at hand itself. In other words, finding a non-affiliated magazine concerning the controversy is not possible because none of these would publish it, and White Dwarf, even if it would ever write about it, is not a valid source by Wikipedia standards. So unless Wikipedia changes its standards in what is a source and what is not, the controversy will never make in into the article /long-winded explanationReply

Edit request on 10 June 2013 edit

He is regarded in a controversial light by many Warhammer 40,000 gamers, due to the internal imbalance of the army lists he publishes.

86.136.74.243 (talk) 09:04, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

You'll need to provide a reliable source stating that in order for it to be included. Qwyrxian (talk) 10:06, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

There is no 'official' source beyond blogs, forums, chat rooms, image boards, and other wiki's. None of which fall under Wikipedia's 'official source' guidelines. People are unable to provide an official source because the only magazine that discusses 40k is printed by Games Workshop, and worked on by Matt Ward. White Dwarf is simply an advertisement work that does not discuss the opinion or thoughts of the wider community. They focus on the Warhammer Fantasy/40,000 franchises. Hence, there needs to be 'some' leeway to allow at least a reference to the common negative opinion of Matt Ward by the Warhammer community. While you will likely say "Site an official source" that is not possible. For a better understanding of the nature of the situation, take a few minutes to google Matt Ward's name. It will not be difficult to find copious amounts of negative feedback regarding the writer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.44.61.75 (talk) 15:35, 30 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

If the negative feedback is significant, it will have been commented on by a reliable source. No reliable source = no mention. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 16:30, 30 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Please add: Army Book: Dark Elves (2012) (ISBN-13: 978-1782530947) (Games Workshop Product Code: 60 03 02 12 005) Jokersbtmbeach (talk) 23:44, 25 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Well, a couple of quick clicks don't show me proof that Matt Ward was involved in this work, but I've made this change anyway.
Could you please go looking for interesting things like anything in any magazine or newspaper that independently comments on Ward's work, describes his life, or anything similar? Thank you. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 00:00, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Source? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 03:52, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Games-workshop.co.uk only the site may no longer have it because they do not hold on to old articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.44.52.238 (talk) 14:10, 30 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

We'll wait. (Like that guy trying to buy pirate memory games.) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:01, 30 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

He makes a reference in his blog to writing his last book for GW "Just as Siege of Gondor was the first book I saw through from beginning to end, Warhammer: Khaine is the last. That's not to say it's the last one I wrote (there's one to go yet)" http://www.thetowerofstars.co.uk/#!The-Wheel-Turns/c1q8z/BA5B121D-93F6-482D-AC4A-4E72A8464BD1

Also "Thing is, it’s the first book that I wrote (co-wrote, actually) to be released since I left Games Workshop." http://www.thetowerofstars.co.uk/#!The-Dark-Arts/c1q8z/89B5A1B0-DBFB-4334-A1E0-6341F00D78C2 Seems pretty definite from his own mouth PerfidiousMA (talk) 11:32, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Addition of Personal blog, and details about other publications etc edit

Could I suggest that links be added to his author website? Recently set up in 2014, seemingly after he finished working for Games Workshop.

[1]

he indicates in two posts himself that he has finished writing for the company "Just as Siege of Gondor was the first book I saw through from beginning to end, Warhammer: Khaine is the last. That's not to say it's the last one I wrote (there's one to go yet),"[2] Also "Thing is, it’s the first book that I wrote (co-wrote, actually) to be released since I left Games Workshop." [3]

It also has a longer bibliography than is currently given on wiki:

[4] Most of which is also corroborated on Goodreads - who require certain proofs of authorship. [5]

He also briefly had some fantasy work published under the pen name Robert Charles - probably something he couldn't (or didn't want to) release under his own name until he finished working with GW [6] PerfidiousMA (talk) 11:29, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Addition to Bibliography

- Brazen Dreams (short story) published in Grimdark Magazine 1 July 2015

Addition to References

Partly done: thank you for the suggestions. I have added the short story to the bibliography. I did not add the link to Grimdark Magazine, because it is a link to a page which sells the magazine and does not seem to have any content particularly relevant to this article. Furthermore, your username suggests that you are an employee of the magazine, and I advise you to take a look at our plain and simple guide to conflicts of interest. Isn't He Back? edit

I heard he came back to GW. I'd add it, but it's semi-protected. Also, please don't unprotect this article. As long as Warhammer or WH40k exist, this article needs protection. RoninMacbeth (talk) 23:27, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
