I have tried to write this page in a neutral, factual manner. I have presented it in much the same way as has been done for other cymbal manufacturers on Wikipedia. I don't wish to self-aggrandise or self-promote - I include a list of notable players only to justify my "notability" for inclusion in Wikipedia. I have more solid references from reputable sources (print magazines and national newspapers in UK, USA, Germany and Croatia) but not to hand right now / not online. I will add them later.

I appreciate the conflict of interest issue and welcome editing or verification by others.

Musicians and orchestras have come to me from all over the world for help in repairing, creating or re-creating musical instruments for which there is presently no other source. In the past, Wikipedia has been one of the means by which these organisations have found me and thus found a solution to their problems. I am grateful for this - and the information service that Wikipedia provides in general - and have been a regular donor. Teethmeister (talk) 10:49, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I have revised this article to remove the "autobiographical" tone and am requesting interested editors to review this new version with the intention of not requiring any autobiographical tag. All suggestions are still welcome of course. I have removed material that seemed possibly promotional and have tried to place Mr. Nolan firmly in the context of the noteworthiness of his activity in regard to contemporary musical craftmanship. I believe this version also strengthens the claim of notability for Mr. Nolan's work. I argue anyone who is doing something no one else in England is doing and that it attracts the professional interest of well-known musicians and they regard the work as significant and professional enough to collaborate with him in their own art justifies notability. Here are some suggestions for the citation needed for the Aquasonic underwater instruments reference - http://spotfestival.dk/program/between-music-aqua-sonic-en/?lang=en and http://futureperfectproductions.org/artists/ I will look to see if I can find a 3rd party reference for me starting work in 2005 for the other citation needed. Thanks, Matt. Teethmeister (talk) 09:01, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

"Artisan" edit

Theroadislong removed the term "Artisan" from the article as POV. I htink based on the following excerpt from the Drummer's Journal article already cited, and the other cited descriptions of Nolan's working methods, that "Artisan" is a fair description of his business, simply a paraphrase of the sources. "So would you have reservations about scaling production up?"

"I would have reservations, yeah. My goal is not to make a big company and loads of money. Yes, of course I need to make a living, but I also want to enjoy what I’m doing. I think in the case of making cymbals, it would be difficult to teach someone to make cymbals like I do. It’s not that my way is the best, but even if I had an apprentice and taught them very closely, they’d still end up making their own cymbals. Maybe with other things, like with triangles for example, that is an engineering process. You could show someone how to do exactly the same thing and make it sound the same as the last one. With a cymbal, I don’t think you can do that. There are just so many variables. How many hammer strokes there are, where they are, how heavy they are, what type of hammer you use. It’s what I hear halfway through that informs which

direction I take it. That’s why they’re wonderful things."[1]

I would really prefer a secondary source that called him an "artisan" other wise it certainly is POV. Theroadislong (talk) 19:10, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
