Stanley Cup

edit

For all of the accolades listed for Sundin, shouldn't it be noted he is yet to win a Stanley Cup in his otherwise impressive career? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.77.9.242 (talk) 01:14, 22 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sundin Photo

edit

Someone just reverted the UP TO DATE NHLPA main photo back to the version from 2003 for absoloutely no reason. I've reverted it back. If you have a problem with the photo then please comment here. --Tykell 02:03, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Where has his photo gone? Has the NHL disallowed posting them? I noticed Kaberle's photo and others are missing too The Hobo 18:12, 5 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hobo, Wikipedia admins have decided to be anal morons and have determined that since we aren't making an effort to go out and get a "free photo" of the athletes, even though the NHLPA has allowed these images to be used here, that the photos are illegal to be used on wikipedia. --Stukov 22:36, 5 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Just because the NHLPA has not specifically asked for the removal of the photos does not mean they have given us permission to use them. Their terms of services explicitly state that their photos are not freely redistributable. --Wafulz 02:12, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
It would be pretty weak if they were just being anal morons, maybe I'll write a letter to the NHLPA asking if we can have permission.. I find it's honestly very useful to have the pictures there --The Hobo 03:49, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think the fact that he was the first non-Canadian player to captain the Leafs is an interesting tidbit that could be added to the article. I'd do it, but I'm not sure exactly where is would fit in, so I'll leave it to someone else Priester 04:29, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I added the fact that Mats Sundin has won three World Championships with Team Sweden to the International Play Section. I also corrected a typing error: Sundin was a member of the Canada Cup All Star team in 1991 not 1992 (there was no CC Cup in 92). Felix

@ Priester: I think there should be a section called "Trivia" like there is on other athletes' pages. If I knew how to edit stuff, I would put it in. Will R.

Wikipedia is trying to eliminate "Trivia" sections, such facts if regarded as encyclopedic value it should be worked into the article. --Krm500 22:20, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sundin in Sweden

edit

Added a bit in the International Career about his standing in Sweden.Sundin has played in the olimpics quite a few times.

Oct. 31, 2006 edit

edit

I removed that he was traded to Quebec for Goulet and a draft pick. Of course he can't be traded to the team he is already on. Previous versions of the article say he was drafted by Hartford and then traded, but the NHL web site says he was drafted by Quebec (I added the reference). I assume the Goulet trade didn't happen or was for someone else.

I don't see a big problem saying he's considered to be one of the greatest Swedish players ever, but since someone asked for a citation, I just removed the sentence. It's clear from the article how great he is.24.68.180.163 08:45, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, he was definitely drafted by the Nordiques (they had him, Nolan, and Lindros all in a row)- you were correct in removing that. Goulet was also on the Nordiques in 1989, so I don't know how that trade would make sense.
About the greatest Swede thing- I found this, but it says he's one of the greatest forwards of the last 15 years, so I don't know if it'd quite work. The HHOF website might have something, but their search is down right now. --Wafulz 14:13, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why are you retards not allowing me to post the fact that Mats Sunin supports The National Democrats in Sweden?? He's a proud Swede, and you may not agree with his politics, but that does not mean you should hide the facts!!!—Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.137.104.115 (talkcontribs)

  1. Be civil on talk pages
  2. No personal attacks
  3. Provide a source
  4. It's not even relevant to this article. He's not very political to begin with- he's a hockey player, so unless he regularly donates large sums or frequently campaigns for them, it's not necessary to have the information here. --Wafulz 03:16, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Penalty Box cameras edit

edit

Does this count as a source? [1]
I guess that's only one (of probably more) incidents and it wasn't said in words, but I did find it funny. --The Hobo 18:15, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I can guarantee that I've seen it happen several times, but yeah, we need a published source for this. Otherwise it's more of something that fans have noticed (ie this video attests to it happening once). Given the frequency of his hatred of penalty box cameras, it'll only be a matter of time before they dedicate an intermission segment or mention it in a story somewhere. I also don't think it should be in the article unless the media picks up on it- right now, while humourous, it's largely trivial. --Wafulz 18:21, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wifes' Picture?

edit

Do we really need one first off and 2nd off their are at least thousands of kids that go on this page and do they really need to see such an exposing picture? We don't even have a picture of him but his wife has one?

That was vandalism. It's not his wife/fiance. It's a porn actress.-Wafulz 13:07, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mats vs Mattias

edit

Someone wrote his name is not Mattias. Isn't Mats a shortened version of Mattias? If so, it should say his name is indeed Mattias.

Sorry about this.Somehow it got posted twice.

No sources indicate that his name is "Mattias"- it should stay as "Mats".-Wafulz 05:40, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I just looked it up and Mats is not a short version of Mattias. They are, indeed, two different names.

Mats Sundin reaches 500th goal with third of a hat-trick

edit

Sorry to be pedantic guys but Brett Hull also reached his 500th with the third of a hat-trick, you even have that on his wikipedia page. So there are 3 players (Sundin, Hull, Messier) that have done this, not just Sundin and Messier as you have in your article.

Here is another ridiculously hilarious reference that proves Brett scored his 500th in a hat-trick.

Swedish Enticements

edit

Is this really noteable? Bulbous (talk) 15:30, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well a whole city is trying to convince him to move there, so I think it is. It's pretty rare for an entire community to get behind a contract offer like this.-Wafulz (talk) 15:35, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't really know if it is or not. Certainly, this is the most high-profile situation that I can think of. But, 10 years from now, would the fact that he was offered a bag of swedish meatballs a week really be noteworthy in a brief bio page like this? Bulbous (talk) 16:44, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
What if I cut some examples out?-Wafulz (talk) 17:15, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
That might be a good idea. That much detail is probably a little unnecessary. Bulbous (talk) 17:43, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Vancouver Canucks

edit

On December 18, 2008 it was news broke that Mats Sundin has signed with the Vancouver Canucks for the remainder of the 2008-2009 NHL season. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cbracer (talkcontribs) 23:15, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

He agreed, but has not signed yet. He can't sign because of the holiday freeze.

Norum (talk) 02:58, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, that's not true. He can sign during this period. You've misread the facts somewhere. Alaney2k (talk) 03:35, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sundin did sign because the NHL roster freeze began at midnight, December 19th - which is AFTER the signing was done and announced. – Skyezxmessage 09:20, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I read elsewhere that he can sign during the freeze. He would then have to be activated immediately after the freeze ended. Alaney2k (talk) 15:14, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Why is this section almost as long as the Leafs section? Nobody will care about those silly little details about how he ended up there a few years from now. He played 1,480 games with the Leafs and 49 with the Canucks!

the problem isn't that the Canucks section is too long it's that the Leafs section is too short. It is notable that they offered to make him the highest paid player and as to why he missed extra games in the playoffs IMHO.--Mo Rock...Monstrous (leech44) 17:48, 17 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Bromma vs. Stockholm

edit

I think that Stockholm should be as the place of birth, not Bromma for the fact that Bromma is not a separate city, but only a part of Stockholm.

Lifetime Statistics

edit

I'm thinking that the statistics are not added up properly. The number I am getting from adding up all of the posted PIM is over 1100, but the total says 1063 I think. NHL.com lists the total as 1093, not considering the 2 min he tabulated today. I bet there are many incorrect stats for nearly every sport on here. Hard to keep straight. Farglesword (talk) 21:57, 11 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is why stats are not to be updated until the end of the season. – Nurmsook! talk... 22:01, 11 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, that makes sense, but the season's over. The playoffs are TBD. But the total is stil 1141 regardless. NHL.com is at 1093. I'll try to find out where the difference lies.Farglesword (talk) 22:10, 11 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Alright. I see. Both NHL.com and Wikipedia list NHL totals. That's all fine, but maybe NHL and other leagues shouldn't be included in the same list then, or NHL stats should be made to stand out like on NHL.com where they are bolded.Farglesword (talk) 22:18, 11 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well career statistics means all the stats from his career. There's no real need to bold them because the total column specifically states that the totals are the the NHL only. – Nurmsook! talk... 22:51, 11 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Over-focus on an NHL perspective

edit

The article, as it currently stands, is overly focused on an NHL perspective, and fails to reflect the relative importance given to international championships vs NHL outside of North-America. (To many Swedes, e.g., the NHL is just a national championship; albeit the largest and most prestigious in the world. A world championship or an Olympic tournament is given significantly more attention.)

Because WP should reflect the international view, not the local US (Swedish, Nigerian, ...) view, I suggest that the article is re-ordered/re-written to put his international efforts (which internationally are more significant) at the top. Further, that the introduction is re-written correspondingly. Further, that a section on his (comparatively brief) time in the Swedish national hockey league is added.

A similar critique is likely to apply to the articles of other hockey players from outside North-America. (Those from within, arguably and typically, have had sufficiently few international appearances that an NHL centric view can be justified.) 94.220.254.21 (talk) 10:52, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
