Whats prostitution got to do with anything?

Hmmm I don't know, but the article needs cleanup. The sunder king 16:40, 15 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Prostitution could be the dissolution of the "mating system"? Regardless this article is very obtuse and imprecise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AJHoette (talkcontribs) 04:20, 8 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Comments edit

This entry is very complete, as it focuses on even more than just animals. In my comment, I will be referring to the section about animals. This section has so much information and is presented in a concise manner. This section is very complete. The mentions about communal breeding and pair-bonding peaked my interest and made me want to know more about these. I would possibly add are a few examples of species demonstrating the different types of mating systems, although I don’t think that this would be a necessary addition. I believe that citations would strengthen the credibility of the section. WhitleyTucker (talk) 02:34, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions edit

Although there is a lot of information in the "In humans" section, including examples, there are not many citations to back up the information - this should be added to. Additionally, the effect of culture on human mating systems could be expanded on further than just as a statement; Schmitt's (2005) study of the culture and mating strategies in 48 nations [1] across the world could be a good place to start. It may also be useful to take a closer look at the evolutionary reasons as to why humans vary so greatly in their mating systems, as an explanation is not particularly suggested here.
