Article Copy-Past

This page seems to be a copy-paste of http://www.mass-customization.de/glossary.htm and I imagine that the author of that page, who placed it under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License wouldn't be too happy with this as it isn't attributed. Additionally it uses un-encyclopedic language such as "In my understanding". 58.6.42.36 06:34, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Is cc-share alike a "GFDL-compatible license"? I don't read it as being such because it seems as if they require it to be licensed with cc-sharealike only. I removed the content of question and replaced it with a short summary of what the website says. Hopfully other editors can build on this start. Using the old content in a parpharsed(meaning encyclopedic language and signifcantly differnt with out loss of meaning) would be approprate.R00m c 06:09, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Mass customization, in marketing, is the use of flexible computer aided manufacturing systems to customized the outputs of low unit cost, high output, production processes. It is claimed that these systems combine the low unit costs of mass production processes, with the flexibility of individual customization.

There are four types of mass customization:

Collaborative customization - firms talk to customers one-on-one to determine the precise product offering that best serves the customers needs (see personalized marketing and personal marketing orientation) - this information is then used to specify and manufacture a product Adaptive customization - firms produce a standardized product, but this product is customizable in the hands of the end-user - the customers alter the product themselves Transparent customization - firms provide individual customers with unique products, without explicitly telling them that the products are customized - need to be able to accurately predict customer needs Cosmetic customization - firms produce a standardized physical product, but market it to different customers in unique ways.

Two directories

Trying to add the two relevant directories in the field of mass customization, the configurator-database.com and milkorsugar.com, the links keep being removed. Please do not overdo the cleaning job.Havanafreestone (talk) 07:19, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Exactly, you are linking to directories that provide no other resource or service than attempting to sell products. Try finding resources that present contextual information about the subject. Reviewing your recent edits, I'm tending to agree with the comment Deb made on your talk page about your intentions regarding milkorsugar. 98.122.183.67 (talk) 08:20, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
I just took a glance at the milkorsugar WHOIS ... I think I've solved the anagram that you have posed on your user page Stefan. You should probably read WP:COI. 98.122.183.67 (talk) 08:29, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Both directories provide a comprehensive overview of customizable products, one for academic audiences, the other for designers/configurators. Please refer to WP:EL policy, 3.2 Links to be considered: "A well-chosen link to a directory of websites or organizations.". Let me know if you find any database or directory that's more comprehensive on the subject of mass customization than those two. And please let me know what's commercial about the configurator database or about milkorsugar? And, even if one of those would be commercial, is linking to anything commercial forbidden on wp? Thanks, Stefan Havanafreestone (talk) 19:48, 22 September 2009 (UTC) And you earned yourself a fruitbasket :) Let me know where to ship Havanafreestone (talk) 19:49, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

If you can find a directory that lists sites providing information on this topic (and again, the magic word is information -- not a directory of links to commercial sites), feel free to add it. In the mean time, please refrain from attempting to exploit Wikipedia to promote your own website. 98.122.183.67 (talk) 12:46, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
A collection or categorization is often information by itself and surely that's the case here: both directories provide informative meta-data about the sites they reference and both provide an overview of the field of mass customization. Involvement implies the need for carefulness but not a prohibition to link.Havanafreestone (talk) 07:25, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

I saw this mentioned at Wikipedia:Third opinion. MilkorSugar appears to be referral marketing which is something to normally be avoided per WP:ELNO. I am lead to this conclusion because it looks professional and I don't see any adds. Configurator Database appears to be marketing and/or sales for cyLEDGE/cyLEDGE customers. Although it has some links that are titled in an interesting way in the scientific section there isn't any actual unique information to pull from there. Therefore it does not meet WP:ELMAYBE I would recommend that an editor pulls key words (such as their "partners" or the names of the conferences) and starts googling for reliable sources before even considering an external link. cyLEDGE may meet the notability guidelines for corporations but that is another article and discussion.Cptnono (talk) 11:40, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Mass Customization of Clothing

I work for a company that is a pioneer in garment mass customization. I would love to add some information about our technology to the Collaborative Customization section.

I have never edited a Wikipedia page before and I need some tips. I'm concerned that if I add info about our company, that I will look like a spammer. However, I think the info I can add would be informative to Wikipedia users. Any tips for a newbie?
