Marsberg and Obermarsberg edit

Marsberg and Obermarsberg mean the same town. And during the Dark Ages they were called Eresburg and Heresburg. Later scholars interpreted Eres- as the greek god Ares and used the better known Roman god Mars to name the newly founded city at this place. But to the people it was known as Stadtberge. In the local dialect it still bears this name. Greetings --Namensknappheit (talk) 21:37, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

And Volkmarsen derives from Volkmarshausen, which means 'houses or settlement of Volkmar', Volkmar being a male name. German place names with '-hausen' are from the early middle ages. Greetings --Namensknappheit (talk) 07:21, 26 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
