I get 200 google results for "Viscount of Formartine" and 350 for "Viscount Formartine," many of the latter being copies of our content. ugen64 06:31, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Cracroft's agrees with you ("13th Viscount of Formartine (Scotland, let. pat. 30 Nov 1682)"). Proteus (Talk) 10:50, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Interesting. Another question: is the courtesy title "Viscount Formartine"? I know sometimes people change their courtesy titles for random reasons... ugen64 03:35, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Probably. The "of" in Scottish viscountcies is very rarely used for courtesy titles (in fact, off hand, I can't think of an example where it definitely is used). I suppose they think it'd just be confusing, because people aren't used to viscountcies with "of" in the title. Proteus (Talk) 10:16, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Split

edit

Should this be split, creating a new article, Earl of Aberdeen, or possibly an article on the Gordon family? Most of this article is about the family history before the creation of the Marquessate, and hence is irrelevant to the title. It seems wrong to have that info. As an alternative this page could be renamed, though I'm not sure what. --Colapeninsula (talk) 17:22, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

This is the system used for all peerage articles. This gives a good overview of the titles. Tryde (talk) 18:23, 14 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
