Write Fatu Iva not "Fatu Hiva" (sic)

if r doesnt not exist in Marquesan (statement with wich I agree, exept in loan words, why put it in the consonant list ?

The old dictionnary for marquesan language is from Monseigneur (bishop) DORDILLON not "Dorillon"

Paucity?

The article states:

...the phonology of Marquesan languages is characterized by a paucity of consonants and a comparative abundance of vowels.

Although paucity and abundance are subjective terms, the abundance (or lack of) of consonants and vowels doesn't seem to be all that significant to me. Is there a better way to word this or is this simply a misstatement that should be removed? AEuSoes1 19:18, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Proto-Polynesian

I have taken out this which has been in the article for a long time: It alone seems to have taken "the other path" in the simplification of Proto-Polynesian nasalized consonants. Where most Polynesian languages simplified *mb to /m/, North Marquesan has /p/, and where most simplified *nd to /n/, North Marquesan has /t/. for the simple reason that nasalised consonants have not been reconstructed for Proto-Polynesian. So that's just plain inaccurate. Also took out some other material which makes some fairly radical claims. This stuff probably went in before citations were required, but they are certainly needed now. Kahuroa (talk) 19:09, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

I am trying to add to this site more information about complex grammar and syntax. Also syntax and verbal nouns. Some resources are dissertations, hard cover books, and e-books. They all can be found online or in the UH Manoa library.

PEER REVIEW FOR LING 102

Honestly this was an amazing Linguistic article and I can't give you much to fix. If anything, I'm reaching to find things for you to improve on just so I can get some credit... so please forgive me. 1. Perhaps add some history/background of where your language came from? I know the Marquesan Islands are considered the root of many other Polynesian cultures, so maybe put some background to that. 2. Wherever you consider that it may be lacking citations or says "citation needed", maybe add a citation to those areas so everything is filled up. 3. Lastly, since you have the majority of the grammatical and syntax parts included, just focus on where the Marquesan language is spoken and its distribution/endangered-ness. Mahalo! My edits would be: 1. add a citation for all the information below the first sentence in the Phonology section. 2. add a citation for all the information below the first sentence in the Dialect Diversity section.
