Map edit

Given the subject of the article, I think a topographic map like this would be more informative. Elekhh (talk) 12:15, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree, and I have already made a request to an editor who has made topographical (relief) maps before. The problem is that the infobox uses a template-based map, and for Madagascar, there is only one option—the map you see. Using any other random map will not allow the coordinates to place a dot on the map properly. If that author creates the map I have requested, then it will be no problem to switch to a topographical or relief map. – VisionHolder « talk » 13:32, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
If you like the map I linked to, I can make it to a template which can be used with the dot, pretty quick. Just let me know.--Elekhh (talk) 13:40, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I absolutely love you map, so as long as you can list it here and make sure it follows whatever standards there are for these templates, I would be very appreciative. Let me know when the map is up and I will gladly use it. Also, let me know if you set it up as a "relief" map or a regular map because this will affect how I enter it in the infobox. Whatever you set up will ultimately be used for all the Malagasy national park articles. Thanks! – VisionHolder « talk » 14:34, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
All right, I changed it, but the infobox seems to lack a parameter for setting the dot colour, which now is green on green - not ideal. Well, feel free to revert if you think so. --Elekhh (talk) 16:24, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've made a few changes to Template:Location map Madagascar and Template:Location map Madagascar relief to mirror what I was seeing for some of the other relief maps. I then changed how the relief map was called from the infobox, and to my surprise, the dot changed color to red without me doing anything! Anyway, the map looks beautiful! Thank you very much for volunteering to set that up. – VisionHolder « talk » 23:26, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'll be starting a review. Ucucha 16:11, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • "slash and burn agriculture (known locally as tavy)"—is it necessary to mention the term tavy in the lead?
Good point. Removed. – VisionHolder « talk » 19:25, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • The first paragraph of "History" is rather grammatically confused; please check. Also, isn't the Marojejy Massif a group of mountains, instead of a single mountain?
I think I've fixed it. Please let me know. – VisionHolder « talk » 19:25, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Some points:
  • "Despite a scientific survey of the mountains in the region by the 1929 Mission Franco-Anglo-Américaine,[4] it was not surveyed until 1937" sounds very self-contradictory. Do you mean that while other mountains in the region were surveyed, Marojejy was not? Also, this 1929 Mission was the same one that brought us Monticolomys, and I think it deserves a red link.
  • Red link added, and yes, it means that other mountains in the region were surveyed, but not the Marojejy Massif. I have tried to clarify. – VisionHolder « talk » 21:31, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • "The massif was not formally described"—what does "formally described" mean in the context of a mountain?
  • I'm not sure how geologists say it. The sources say, "the MarojejyMassif was first described by Professor Henri Humbert," so I followed their wording, and treated it like a biological species description. I added "formally" in a feeble attempt to clarify between the earlier survey and the latter description. – VisionHolder « talk » 21:31, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • How about "was first geologically described"? Ucucha 21:32, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ucucha 20:14, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • "Because of the wide range of habitats within the park, many of its plants and animals are endemic to the area."—the one does not follow from the other
Good catch! It should be fixed now. – VisionHolder « talk » 19:25, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • "The vegetation of Marojejy National Park is extremely diverse due to the various microclimates, with the wet eastern slope showing faster growth, the dry western slope exhibiting slower growth due, and growth on the ridge tops hindered by high winds and poor soils."—check grammar; not sure what you mean
I'm sorry... I wrote this at 3am, and my collaborators who did the proofread and said it all looked good.  ;-) Thanks for catching that badly messed-up sentence. – VisionHolder « talk » 19:25, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • "Madagascar's highest but most accessible peak."—isn't Maromokotro higher?
Very good catch! I misread the source. – VisionHolder « talk » 19:25, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the fixes; I'm passing the article now. Ucucha 13:52, 13 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

History edit

Perhaps i wasn't reading the article well enough but why is there information about Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) in the history? If this really does pertain to the history of the park then an explanation of why this is in here would be good. it almost seems that the article from Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) was just put into this article about marojejy national park. BlakeAllred (talk) 02:03, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wow nevermind on that i dont know what was going on with my computer, it was displaying something about ubuntu. So yeah, nevermind BlakeAllred (talk) 02:07, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
It wasn't your computer, it was vandalism or testedit which I later reverted. Seems that the intended page protection did not really work. --Elekhh (talk) 02:41, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

SAVA Region edit

This phrase in the lead is capitalised, unlike the article to which it links. Would it be possible for someone in the know to sort this out please? Give that this is on the front page, it shouldn't be inconsistent with the articles that it links to. Brammers (talk/c) 16:41, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Fixed! Thanks for pointing that out. Birdsinthewindow (talk) 22:58, 3 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
